When Ashley Flynn signed for Golcar United last summer, much of the NWCFL had no idea how prolific a striker they had signed and how to stop him scoring became a major problem for clubs.

Huddersfield based Flynn had spent much of his career on the other side of the Pennines in the Northern Counties East, playing for AFC Emley, Liversedge and Yorkshire Amateur.

He has won this award multiple times in the NCEL, with his best season coming in 2015/16 when he scored 74 goals in all competitions, his 50th coming two weeks before Christmas!

He made his debut at Holker in the opening game, coming off the bench and failing to score. He soon made up for it, scoring at Campion in the next game. By the end of the month he had 11 goals (including one hat-trick) and four Man of the Match awards, enough to win Player of the Month for August.

September brought another hat-trick and MoM at Pilkington, as well as goals and MoM at Bury and Daisy Hill, but an injury ruled him out for a month. Upon returning, he hit all four in a 4-3 win over AFC Darwen.

By the end of the year, he had hit 28 goals and picked up nine MoM awards. There was only three games he failed to score in, and he came off the bench in all three of those!

The second half of the season was nowhere near as prolific, with just five goals coming in the remaining 15 games he played in, although most strikers would be happy with a 1 in 3 goal ratio!  That it was enough to win him this award with 33 goals in total, 31 of them coming in the league.

In response to receiving this award, Flynn said: "I am delighted to win this award. I had a flying start to the season, although injuries in the second half meant that I probably never scored as many as I maybe could have.

"There are not many players who can probably say that they have been leading scorer in both the NCEL and NWCFL, so I am happy that I have been able to do so!

"I would like to thank my team mates at Golcar United as without them I wouldn’t have won this award. We had some very creative players at the club which created the team lots of chances.
