At the recent League Management Commitee Meeting, the proposals and nominations for the March 2024 Player of the Month awards were reviewed.
In the Premier Division our congratulations go to Barnoldswick Town's Gareth Hill. Gareth played 7 times, scoring six goals and bagging 2 Man of the match awards. The nomination from the club for the award shows how much they rate his contribution to the month. It states "Gareth has had a great month for the club in March scoring a total of 6 goals across the month taking his total to 22 for the seasonso far and a total of 2 man of the match awards in March. Gareth started his season slightly later this year due to an injury but its not taken him long to get back to scoring goals for the club. Manager Steve Pickup has only worked with Gareth for a couple of weeks and said.... "Since I've started to work with Gaz he's been a pleasure to work with. I've worked with him in the past and always scores goals and works hard. Not only does he score goals but he's a great lad to work with. Certainly a well deserved award and i'm sure many more to come. With all this in mind we would really like you to consider Gareth for player of the month for March". Fine by us! Congratulations Gareth!
In First Division North our congratulations go to Ashton Athletic's Thomas Romano. Thomas played in 6 of Athletic's games across a month that has seen them consolidate a top 5 place in the division and a place in the forthcoming play-offs. His numbers were really impressive, during that time he scored 5, created 5 assists and 4 Man of the Match nominations from those games. The club acknowledged this great form via their nomination statement, which reads "We wish to nominate Tom Romano for the player of the month award, since Tom arrived at the club a couple of months ago hes turned our fortunes around. This month he had a fantastic game at Daisy Hill scoring a hat trick and laying on another then winning a penalty in a game won 5-0 he was MOM. Then came Shelley and 2 more assists in a 3-1 win, then against Holker old boys we won 2-1 Tom scored and was MOM again. Garstang came next a 5-1 win Tom again MOM and a goal and 1 assist. A fantastic month for Tom". Yes, it certainly was by the looks of it and the awards co-ordinator agreed. Well done Tom.
First Division South Player of the Month for March 2024 is Christopher Pauley of New Mills. Chris bucks the trend of forwards and attacking midfielders claiming the accolades this month as he has received his nomination for his central defensive appearances. The Millers nomination statement includes "Chris joined The Millers back in December having fallen out of favour at his former club, limited to just two substitute appearances in 2023/24 before arriving at Church Lane, but since then he has become a key figure as his sides fortunes improved. Going into the month of March The Millers sat bottom of the North West Counties Football League Division One South table having conceded more goals than any other side in the division. The Millers started the month with a 4-0 win over Stockport Georgians, their first clean sheet in the league this season, and Pauley was perhaps not challenged significantly however it was the game that saw the debut of his central defensive partnership with Chris Rogers.
"Four days later Ashville visited Church Lane and Pauley was outstanding, collecting the Man of the Match award as his side won 2-0. The Millers were sensational in defeating Cheadle Heath Nomads 4-0 at Church Lane. Following the Nomads win came the trip to Winsford United, a real six pointer at the bottom of the table. The home side had the better of the opening exchanges and Pauley, as well as his defensive colleagues, was frequently called into action before his side settled into the game. The Millers took the win and recorded another clean sheet. Stafford Town are a side who do not struggle to score goals, but were unable to breach The Millers defence in an entertaining goalless draw at Church Lane. The final game of the month saw The Millers visit Abbey Hulton United and record an astonishing 6-0 win. The Millers ended the month with five wins and a draw from six matches, significantly they did not concede a goal during the month."
With a solid nomination statement like that, it would be difficult to overlook Chris for the award and indeed we wont. Congratulations to Chris on winning the award and we will see him on Tuesday night for the presentation.
Congratulations again to all winners and we look forward to seeing you all soon.
