History

Barnton Football Club was founded in 1946 and in 1948 they became a founder member of the Mid-Cheshire League. They have played in that league ever since and are one of two clubs to have been in this league throughout its 68 year history, the other being Knutsford (the league was renamed the Cheshire Association Football League in 2007). As of the mid-2000s the club has won the league on eleven occasions, including seven consecutive league titles between 1996/97 and 2002/03.

The pinnacle of the club's success came with the winning of the National League Systems Cup while representing the Mid-Cheshire League in the inaugural competition of 2003/04, beating West Cheshire, Liverpool Combination and South Western League opposition along the way before defeating the Cambridgeshire County League 2-0 on their home soil in the final. As a result of this they went on to represent England in the UEFA Regions Cup in Slovenia and Bosnia where they won four, drew one and lost one of their games, narrowly failing to reach the final stages of the competition.

The club has also participated in the FA Cup on five occasions (1948/49, 1949/50, 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19) failing to get past their extra preliminary round games on each occasion. They have also competed in the FA Vase on four occasions (1985/86, 2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19) not getting through the preliminary rounds on any occasion and winning just one game in this competition.

The club submitted an application to join the North West Counties League for the start of the 2014-15 season. They were successful in their application and were confirmed to take their place in the First Division on May 29th 2014. At the 2013/14 annual awards The Cheshire League presented Barnton a trophy to commemorate their 66 years in the league and wished every success in the N.W.C.F.L.

Following 2 years at the helm manager Steve Lloyd and assistant Manager Mike Alcock stepped down from management with Steve taking up the role of chairman and Mike also taking a prominent role in club development. The net result of this for the 2018/19 season was an introduction of a full junior section with all age groups from 4-18 and further expansion planned for the 2019/20 season.

For the 2020-21 season there's a lot of change ay Barnton. Most of the committee take a back seat and junior section Chairman Dave Bryning and Junior Section Secretary take on the key roles of Chairman and secretary/treasurer for the whole club not just the junior section. Niall Owens expands his portfolio to program and media and Iain Wright joins the board as match day secretary. On the pitch a mid season change of management in 2019-20 saw Liam Page and Neil Murray take the helm with Garry Moore take up the role of director of football

Directions: Turn off the A533 (Northwich to Runcorn) into Beech Lane. Turn right at the ‘T’ junction with Townfield Lane - the ground is 200 yards on the left signed Memorial Hall. Note parking restrictions well signed.

Nearest Bus Route to Ground: Bus route number 4 bus from Northwich interchange. Embark at Beech Road, which is a short walk to the ground.

Parking Facilities: There is Limited parking within the ground (Players and officials Only). Please note NO coaches should go past the main gates. The parking options are well displayed with spectator parking available at the adjacent memorial hall car park, the memorial hall run this facility not Barnton FC and charge a small fee for very close off road parking.

Spectators are discouraged from parking in Townfield Lane but free parking is available at Barnton Village library, approximately 200 metres from the ground entrance on the opposite side of the road but still on Townfield Lane. For busy games the primary school approx. 400 metres further on in Townfield Lane will also be available.

Ground Facilities: The Townfield ground is a little gem in the Northwich suburbs. It boasts a tea bar that serves hot food as well as the usual range of hot drinks. The bar in the club house is also open on matchdays. There is more than adequate covered standing on both sides of the pitch along with open standing. There is a clean and modern mens and ladies toilets toilet block.
