A Christmas Message From Cotto

League Management Committee member John Cotton is looking ahead to 2011 in a positive frame of mind, as he continues to battle back after three operations for cancer.

After a difficult few months, Cotto has been given the all clear by his surgeon, and although he faces a long rehabilitation yet, he already has one eye on getting back to watching games in the near future.

Cotto said: "I've been cleared by the surgeon, and now I have more chemotherapy treatment needed in the New Year, but generally I'm doing well and hopefully on the road to recovery.

"It's a slow process but as the surgeon said, I've had three major operations and my body's taken a bit of a hammering, so it's to be expected that it's taking me time to get back to normal.

"I've been walking about a mile a day although obviously the snow has meant it's not been as easy for me to get out, and cold weather is no good for me either.  But once this spell of weather is over I'm going to start pushing myself a bit more to get back to full fitness.

"I had hoped to get down to watch Newcastle Town's game on Boxing Day against Kidsgrove, even if it was only for half an hour or so, although I think that game will be in doubt with the weather conditions in the Potteries just now.

"I'd like to say thanks again to everyone who has been in touch and sent cards to me, it's been good to hear from so many people.  I know sometimes people are a bit reluctant to ring someone who's been ill, but if anyone wants to give me a call they needn't worry about what to say, it'll still be John Cotton who answers the phone.  The only difference from before is that it's now John Cotton with a health problem they'll be talking to.

"It's been a difficult year for me, but things are looking positive and I'm hopeful that 2011 will be much better.

"In the meantime, I'd like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, and I'm looking forward to getting back out and about in the New Year and seeing all the old faces again."
