Joe Lawton of Abbey Hey has been presented with his Reusch Goalkeeper of the Month award.

League committee member Glyn Jones presented the award to Joe at a recent game, accompanied by goalkeeping coach Gary Phillips.

This is what was said about him when the announcement was made.

FIRST DIVISION SOUTH - JOE LAWTON (ABBEY HEY)

September 2021 saw Ross Heywood win Goalkeeper of the Month for Abbey Hey. Twelve months later and Joseph Lawton repeats it, with his performances in the month seeing him win the September 2022 award.

Joe has been much improved during the month of September, his confidence has improved with two clean sheets in the opening three games of the month against high-flying Ellesmere Rangers and Cheadle Heath Nomads. His shot stopping has been excellent and with his confidence growing that has also spread through the defence.

This saw him concede just twice in the final two games of the month, the first a goal three minutes into stoppage time for Abbey Hulton that he could do nothing about and the second an equaliser from Northern Premier League side Stalybridge Celtic in the Manchester Cup, a game that saw Joseph make several key saves in taking the game to penalties.

Joe is still a young man with a really good future ahead of him.

Congratulations to Joe and to all at Abbey Hey.
