Silsden are hosting a fancy dress five-a-side tournament and family fun day at the Asda Foundation Stadium on Sunday, July 9th 2011 from 10am.

The day has been organised to raise money for the Chris Brown Trust, which was set up to celebrate the life of Chris Brown, who tragically died at the age of 24 following an injury whilst playing for the Silsden Amateur Rugby League side.

Chris, a prop-forward, hit his head on the ground in a match against Meltham All Blacks on September 5th, 2009. Chris was initially substituted but later rejoined the game. After the game he collapsed and never regained consciousness. He was taken to Leeds General Infirmary but died 11 days later.

The teams competing in the tournament are competing for the second year in succession for the Browny Cup”, with all the proceeds from the day going to the Trust.

The Chris Brown Trust was set up in early May 2010 and by the end of the month it had already raised £1,300 through a cake and coffee day, a collection at the Presentation Evening of Silsden Whitestar FC and a bucket collection at the Keighley Cougars versus Halifax rugby league game. Further fundraising events took place with Claire Farrington and Donna Leeming raising over £1,000 walking the Yorkshire Dales' Three Peaks.

The first Fancy Dress tournament, held on July 10th 2010, raised nearly £6,000. Chris' birthday would have been on the following day and the tournament and fun day, designed to be a celebration of his life, will now become an annual event.

The money raised at this year's event will go towards helping someone get by while they are suffering loss or hardship, with the distribution of money being decided by a small group of people including Linda, Chris's mum.
