History

Haughmond Football Club were founded by two brothers Roger and Dave Ellis-Morgan and began their first season in the Shropshire County League in the 1981-82 season.

The 82-83 season saw a move to the West Shropshire League and after a quiet couple of seasons began to move up the divisions and collect some silverware’ including the Shropshire Junior Cup. The most notable season was the 95-96 in which they collected four trophies, winning four out of the five competitions they had entered.

The 1999-00 season saw a return to the county league, gaining promotion to the Premier Division in their first season and becoming Premier Division Champions in 2004 as well as winning the coveted Commander Ethelstone Cup the same year. Other competition successes followed and following the Premier Division title again in 2011 the decision was made to progress to the West Midlands Regional League for the 2011/12 season.

Crowned Division Two Champions in their first season and Division One runners up in 2014, the club finished fifth in 15/16 and then picked up the top spot in 16/17 to be crowned League and Cup Champions and gain promotion to the Midland Football League Premier Division.

It was a short lived stay as we were relegated back to the WMRL for the 2017/18 season having achieved the required ground grading to step 5. We were also finalists in the Shropshire Challenge Cup losing out to Newport Town.

2018/19 saw Dan Williams appointed manager and a return to the WMRL Premier Division and after a poor start finished runners up to Tividale and a return to the MFL. Another losing Final in the Shropshire Challenge Cup, this time missing out to Bridgnorth but a decent run in the FA Cup eventually going out to Mickleover Sports.

With the 2019-20 and the 2020-21 season’s registered as null and void the team retained their position within the MFL Premier for the 2021-22 season only to be relegated into Division 1 for the 22/23 season. More disappointment followed as we suffered back to back relegations and found themselves falling out of step 6 and into step 7 and into the Salop Leisure League. With a new management team recruited the club overhauled the playing staff and in the second year of the SLL 24/25, they gained promotion back into step 6 for the 25/26 season but this time into the new surroundings of the NWCFL.
