Cotto Returns To League Duties

As reported on the league website last week, League Management Committee club representative John Cotton is recovering well after his recent health problems, and tonight sees him achieve another of the targets he set himself several months ago.

This evening, Cotto (pictured left) will be chauffeured by League Fixtures Secretary John Reid to this month's League Management Committee meeting, the first one that he has attended this season.  After a busy week of rescheduling yet more fixtures, John Reid is anticipating that he won't get much peace and relaxation in the car as the two make their way up from Stoke.

"I rang Cotto last week and asked if I could visit him, and even when I hit him with the punch line that I'd be bringing Norton United Secretary Dennis Vickers with me, he still said it was OK", said John.

"When we approached Cotto's house, we found that there were traffic bollards across the entrance to his house, the only one in a very long road to have these bollards in front of it.  I commented to Dennis that it was amazing the lengths that some people will go to keep him out.

"Eventually Cotto let us in, and he looks brilliant, he is getting back to his former self.  Cotto's wife Sharron made the tea, and the three of us spent an hour and a half putting football and cricket to rights, and I bet a few ears were burning around the Vodkat League.

"When we left, the bollards were still there, but I'm sure as he shut the door he said to Sharron 'fetch the bollards in, they didn't work'.  It seems one of the utility companies had been carrying out work in the road, but it was funny that only the entrance to Cotto's was blocked off.

"It was great to see how well Cotto looked and how well he is doing. He has started watching football again and I'm sure he will be bending my ear in his usual style when I taxi him to the Management Commitee meeting at Haydock.

"I'm sure many around the league will agree he has been missed, and hopefully when the weather warms up he will be making appearances at local Vodkat League grounds again and his many friends in the league can say 'Welcome back Cotto'."

As for the man himself, he's enjoying getting back in touch with all the old faces again.

"It was nice of the two lads to pop round, although before they came they said they would only be there for half an hour.  It was only when I went upstairs and put my pyjamas on that they decided to leave.

"I'm getting out and about a bit more, and last midweek I went to the Newcastle Town v Northwich Victoria game in the President's Cup.  I only planned on staying for a short while, but it went to extra time and I ended staying right to the end.  My wife was about to send the dogs out to look for me when I turned up at home.

"It'll be good to be back at the League meetings once again, and I never thought I'd say it, but I'm looking forward to hearing the dulcet tones of the Chairman and Development Officer once again."
