The draw for the Third Round Qualifying of the Emirates FA Cup has been published this afternoon.

Just one NWCFL side remains in the competition at this stage, with Chadderton booking their place in the next round on Saturday with a 1-0 win at FC United of Manchester. Matthew Crothers' superb effort was the difference between the two sides, and if you have not seen it yet then make sure you seek it out!

Chadderton have been given another away trip in the Third Qualifying Round as they travel to National League North side Spennymoor Town.

The Third Round Qualifying will take place across the weekend of Saturday 27 September, with winning clubs at this stage picking up £5,625 from the prize fund and losing teams collecting £1,875.

Analysis

Spennymoor Town ply their trade in the National League North and currently sit in sixth place after eight games with four wins, two draws and two losses. They entered the competition at the last round where they won 1-0 at West Auckland Town.

They were formed in 2005 after a merger between Evenwood Town and the defunct Spennymoor United. Starting life in the Northern League, they won the Second Division in their second season and went on to win Division One four times in seven seasons, eventually stepping up to the Northern Premier League in 2014. They spent just three years in the NPL, winning promotion twice via the play-offs to enter the National League in 2017.

They almost reached the pinnacle of the Non-League game in 2019 when they lost in the Play-Off Final, but they are now firmly established as a National League North side, finishing 9th in each of the last three seasons.

This will be the first ever meeting between the two sides, and also the first time Spennymoor have played a NWCFL side in the FA Cup. They have played our sides three times in the FA Vase, winning 5-0 at Barnoldswick Town in 2011 and 7-0 at Winsford United two years later, that coming in a replay after a 0-0 draw.

Prior to the merger though, Chadderton hosted Evenwood Town on 22nd September 2001 in the FA Cup, with Evenwood winning 3-0. Evenwood faced our sides ten times in the FA Cup and FA Vase, winning three and losing seven. Spennymoor United played seven times against our sides, winning five and losing twice.
