By Martin Fallon

Saturday was a busy day with games in the Isuzu FA Vase and all three divisions. We caught up with several NWCFL Managers after the games to give their thoughts on the games.

 FA-Vase

AFC LIVERPOOL MANAGER MATT POTTER AFTER HIS SIDE BEAT CHEADLE TOWN 2-1

"For us it was the perfect start to the game. Going 2-0 up inside 11 minutes gives us a nice buffer for the rest of the game. It was two good goals with Billy’s being an absolute belter! Credit to Cheadle who kept going and made the game a very nervous finish.

"As in all cup football, the priority was the result to get through into the next round. It puts us to the same stage we were last year so we have a good opportunity to make history and be the furthest the club has ever been in the competition".

BURY AFC MANAGER ANDY WELSH AFTER HIS SIDE BEAT ABBEY HEY 2-0

"I am delighted to get the win and progress to the next round of the FA Vase. With Abbey Hey knocking us out of last season's competition we knew it was going to be a tough game but the goals in the early third of each half really helped to settle us.

"To be continuing in the competition is extremely satisfying, and from the league's perspective it is great to see so many NWCFL teams into the next round alongside us".

HOLKER OLD BOYS MANAGER KEVIN WATKIN AFTER HIS SIDES 4-2 WIN OVER PREMIER DIVISION SQUIRES GATE

"The tie was a great opportunity for the club and the lads responded to it by putting in our most complete performance of the season.

"I thought we started the game with the intensity needed and put Squires Gate FC on the back foot from the 1st minute. We moved the ball very well and created alot of chances and overall deserved the result.

"Obviously it was a big result for the lads and being the furthest the club has ever been in the competition so huge positives to take, and we look forward to what the draw brings on Monday and hopefully helps us continue our good run of form in the upcoming games in the league".

 Premier Division

FC ISLE OF MAN MANAGER PAUL JONES ON HIS SIDES VICTORY AT BARNOLDSWICK TOWN

"Barnoldswick away was always going to be a difficult fixture. They are a well organised and physical team who have beaten some very good team over the last couple of months. We knew we would need a gritty performance from the group to give ourselves a chance and that is exactly what got.

"What really pleases us is not just the maturity being shown by the young players but also how the more experienced lads are looking after them. Three of our U21 players combined with some quick thinking to score our game winning goal and it was great to see this creativity pay-off after all the hard graft everyone put in to keep a clean sheet.

"We are looking forward to getting back into training on Tuesday to keep working hard on our plans ahead of Litherland at home on Saturday".

WYTHENSHAWE TOWN MANAGER JAMES KINSEY AFTER HIS SIDES 1-0 WIN AT CHARNOCK RICHARD

"You have to be at your absolute best to beat Charnock. They’ve got quality throughout the side and I feel they’re in a false position in relation to the quality they have. They work so hard and they limited us to very little over the course of the game.

"It was a scrappy game but we should of had a couple in the end with the chances we missed. We’re at the half way of point in the season now and it’s important we keep taking it one game at a time, starting with a big one at home to Irlam on Tuesday evening!".

WINSFORD UNITED MANAGER LEE DUCKWORTH ON HIS SIDES 2-0 HOME WIN OVER IRLAM

"It was important after a weekend off and a couple of good results that the lads approached the game in the right manner. I thought we were poor first half despite being two goals up and in control of the game, but we could of scored a few more had we maintained the tempo we showed in the first fifteen minutes.

"In the second half the players were professional and managed the game very well. It is good to get the clean sheet and continue some momentum into what is a tough couple of weeks starting with Charnock on Monday night".

  First Division North

CHADDERTON MANAGER BEN GREENIDGE AFTER HIS SIDES 2-0 WIN AT GARSTANG

"Having only just played Garstang two weeks ago in a nine goal thriller, where either team could have won it, we knew Garstang would be more than up for this one!! They are a well organised side with a strong home record in the league.

"The first half we had large spells of possession, and probably deserved some reward for it, but we went in at half time 0-0. In the second half we wanted to get more men forward in our build up. We played some good football that led to our first goal, which came from a corner. The game became a little stretched from that point on, and we hit a second with a very well taken goal.

"The attitude, work rate, and hunger shown by the lads in the second half got us the result and those very important three points".

STEETON MANAGER ROY MASON AFTER HIS SIDES 1-0 WIN ON THE ROAD AT NELSON

"It wasn’t a game for the purist, but on a heavy pitch it was never going to be a classic. With us having a nice 3G surface which enables us to play nice football it’s great to see us being able to roll up our sleeves and battle and scrap when needed.

"I was pleased to keep a clean sheet too and I thought defensively we were excellent throughout the 90 minutes. It’s been a good turnaround since we lost at Nelson early October in the League Cup, with us now unbeaten over 90 minutes in our last ten games".

PILKINGTON MANAGER STE PALFREY AFTER HIS SIDES 4-1 WIN OVER RUNCORN TOWN

"We really didn’t know what to expect from Runcorn given all their changes and speaking to (their joint manager) Biggsy before the game he didn’t either! They proved to be very stubborn and in the first half they competed well and stopped us getting into our rhythm.

"In the end it was fitness that told, we kept going and as they tired the spaces started to open up. Overall it wasn’t the best of displays by us but we got there in the end!".

  First Division South

ECCLESHALL MANAGER LIAM KELLY AFTER HIS SIDE WON 2-0 AT FOLEY MEIR

"It was a real good away win for my boys in a huge local derby. League positions and recent form go out the window in these kind of fixtures and we knew we’d have to be at it if we were to get anything from the game. I thought we controlled the game and the two goals from Chris Boast in the first half on his debut put the game to bed.

"We managed the second half superbly and were good value for the three points. It’s always nice to get local bragging rights. I really hope we can now kick on and get back to the good form that we began the season with. A very proud manager tonight".

STOCKPORT GEORGIANS ASSISTANT MANAGER DAVID BROCKLEHURST ON HIS SIDES 4-3 WIN AT MAINE ROAD

"This was a very hard-fought victory of a physically strong Maine Road side. We rode our luck in the opening stages after a bright start from the home team. After a shaky start we grew into the game and scored through Kyle Wych. Both teams found the condition of the pitch tricky at times and this lead to mistakes from the two sides, having conceded a penalty we then took the lead again just before the break with a close range finish from Jack Woolley.

"An excellent start after half time lead to us going 3-1 up with a superb 30 yard strike from Tom Russell finding the top corner, Maine Road came back strong again and closed the gap to one from an excellent free kick which was very difficult to defend, resulting in an own goal. The game then swung again in our favour with Kyle Wych scoring his second of the game to give us a two goal cushion.

"The home side showed a never say die attitude and made it 4-3 shortly after, making it a nervy last 20 minutes but our lads battled away and defended brilliantly to secure the victory. Having played Maine Rd twice, both games have been very close affairs and we wish them all the very best for the season. A very pleasing victory on a cold wintery day, on a difficult surface against a strong outfit".

NEW MILLS MANAGER MIKE NORTON AFTER HIS SIDES HOME WIN AGAINST ABBEY HULTON UNITED

"I thought that it was a good win against a strong Abbey Hulton United side. It is not always easy playing against 10 men for an hour but once we got the first goal of the game there was only going to be one winner with the extra man.

"I am happy with the three goals and with the clean sheet. Credit also has to be given to Abbey Hulton who never gave up despite being a man short, and they made it difficult for us so fair play to them".

SANDBACH UNITED MANAGER DECLAN SWAN AFTER A 2-1 HOME WIN AGAINST WYTHENSHAWE AMATEURS

"Our form has been good of late with a few good wins in our last couple of games, and it did not surprise me that we beat top of the table at the time Wythenshawe Amateurs at home on Saturday.

"It really should act as a confidence boost for the team that they can beat anyone in this league if they perform to the best of their abilities and give their all on the pitch. It’s important however that results keep being positive and we need to repeat this performance against Lairds midweek or it will count for nothing".

STAFFORD TOWN MANAGER JASON SCOTT AFTER A 2-0 HOME WIN AGAINST BARNTON

"Saturday was a hard working, disciplined performance with two well taken goals. The second was a small touch of quality that gave us a little breathing space. The game plan was executed perfectly by the lads and they got their just rewards from it.

"Barnton worked hard without really creating the same level of chances that they did earlier in the year in the Cup game when they ran out worthy winners. It is important that we build on this now as we head into a tough midweek tie against Eccleshall".
