Congleton Town goalkeeper Jonathan Ritchie suffered a badly broken leg after just 15 minutes of the Bears FA Cup tie at home to Runcorn Town this afternoon.

The keeper, who was making his first appearance for the club, came off second best in a challenge and he was treated on the field for 45 minutes before being stretchered off and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Congleton Twon Secretary Ken Mead said:  "At this stage we are not sure how serious the injury is, but it was fairly clear Jonathan has suffered a bad leg break.  He needed to be given morphine by the paramedics on the field prior to being moved into the ambulance, and was obviously in a lot of pain.

"Manager Joe Paladino has gone to the hospital to find the latest situation and we will be keeping in close touch with him, and the staff at the hospital."
