Premier Division - Burscough

Winning the Premier Division award for December 2025 is Burscough. This is their first monthly award since winning the Premier Division award in September 2021.

The Linnets have had a superb month, with six wins and two draws from their eight games played firmly placing them in the Play-Off picture in the Premier Division. They scored 24 goals in the month, conceding just seven and keeping three clean sheets.

The first game in January was an emphatic 6-2 away win at Pilkington. When Stephen Rigby put Burscough ahead just before half time, there was no indication as to the goal glut that would emerge in the second half. Tom Croughan doubled the lead on 63 minutes with Tom Douglas pulling one back ten minutes later. The two goal lead was restored five minutes later through Christian Mukoko, and that's how it stayed until a crazy end to the game.

In the last minute of normal time, Mukoko made it 4-1 before Matty Hamilton added another just a minute later. Three minutes into stoppage time, Pilks scored their second through Jack Pearce, only for Hamilton to score Burscough's sixth of the game with the last kick of the game.

A week later, Burscough made the long trip to FC Isle of Man, and returned to the mainland with all three points with a 1-0 win. Tom Croughan scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half time.

Next was a midweek home game against South Liverpool, with Sam Turner putting them ahead on 19 minutes. Sam Mullally quickly equalised, only for William Lawson to give Burscough the advantage at half time thanks to his 43rd minute goal. The start of the second half saw Burscough increase their lead through Stephen Rigby, with Sullivan Barker making it 3-2 ten minutes into the half. Again Burscough kept going though, with Sam Turner making it four with 20 ninutes left and Callum Laird adding a fifth in the last minute.

The fourth game was a goalless draw at Cheadle Town, which was followed by another midweek home game with Charnock Richard. After a goalless first half, Christian Mukoko put Burscough ahead five minutes into the second half, followed by a second just before the hour mark from William McCarthy. Charnock quickly reduced the defecit through Ben Hoskin, only for Christian Mukoko to seal the points with Burscoough's third three minutes from time.

It was another home game on the Saturday as Prestwich Heys visited Burscough, with the score ending in a 1-1 draw. Louis Holt put the visitors ahead on 20 minutes, only for Henry Briscoe to level for the Linnets 19 minutes from time

The penultimate game for Burscough was an away trip to their own ground, as they paid a visit to their tenants City of Liverpool. The Purps shocked their landlords as they took the lead after just five minutes through Alex Priestley. Burscough responded through Callum Laird on 22 minutes and took the lead through William McCarthy five minutes later. It remained that way until two minutes before the break, when Sam Turner extended the lead and Christian Mukoko made it four.

The scoring continued in the second half with Laird getting his second of the game ten minutes into the second half. Tom Croughan added a sixth three minutes before the end, with Stephen Rigby confirming an emphatic derby win with the seventh two minutes later.

The most impressive win of the month came on the final day, with a 1-0 home win against fellow promotion contenders West Didsbury & Chorlton. After a glut of goals in the other wins in the month, this time was a tight affair with William Lawson scoring the only goal of the game 15 minutes from time.

Those performances gave Burscough 24 points from their 8 games for a 3.00 average.

Atherton LR and Irlam both ran Burscough close in the month with four wins and a draw, with AFC Liverpool having three wins and a draw from their games.

First Division North - Squires Gate

Club of the Month in the First Division North for January 2026 is Squires Gate. We have records going back 15 years of these awards, and this is the first monthly win that we can find for the Blackpool based club.

They played three games in the month, one at home and two away, with two wins and a draw coming in those games. They were also good value for the neutral, with a whopping 17 goals coming in those games!

Their first game in January came on the first Saturday with a trip across to Steeton. Dean Ing put them  turahead from the penalty spot on 38 minutes, with that being the score at half time. The start of the second half hough saw Joshua Coe and Jacob Smith turn things around for the home side. However Christian Edokpayi found the net seven minutes from time with the game ending 2-2.

There was then a three week gap until the next game, which was a home game against bottom of the table Garstang. What followed was one of the most remarkable games in the NWCFL this season, with Garstang's Liam Clegg opening the scoring on 23 minutes and Ben Turton adding two more to give the visitors a 3-0 half time lead.

Whatever Manager Luke Evans said at half time worked, with Will Squires scoring twice around the hour mark to haul his side back into the game. Christian Edokpayi then equalised on 65 minutes before the same player put Gate ahead with 20 minutes remaining. Ryan Riley then gave his side some breathing room by adding a fifth, with Gate running out 5-3 winners.

It was a similar comeback story in their final game of the month away at Nelson. The host club are outside the Play-Off spots at present but have plenty of games in hand on those above them that could see them top the division with a few wins. It looked good for the home side when Max Cane scored in the 16th and 22nd minute to put Nelson firmly in control, and that's how it stayed until ten minutes from time when Evans' side launched their comeback.

Ivanilson Da Silva made it 2-1 with Dean Ing hitting the equaliser a minute from time. Ing then scored his second of the game four minutes into stoppage time to give his side a 3-2 win and cement them firmly in the Play-Off picture.

Those results gave them 9 points from their 3 games for a 3.00 average.

This was enough to see them just edge out Droylsden who were their closest challengers with three wins, a draw and a loss. Bacup Borough also had a good month with three wins and one loss.

First Division South - Runcorn Town

The winner of the Club of the Month in the First Division South for January 2026 are Runcorn Town. This is the third monthly award this season for Runcorn and the second successive month that they have won this award.

Runcorn once again had a 100% record in the league in the month, playing three games in the month with two emphatic victories in the league and progression in the Edward Case Cup.

The first game was a home game against Shawbury United. It was a close game for much of the first half with Connor Spiers grabbing the only goal of the half four minutes before the break. Spiers then added a second goal eight minutes into the second half, with an Own Goal ten minutes later giving Runcorn a comfortable lead. It wasn't until four minutes from time that Runcorn added a fourth through Charlie Harland, and they scored twice in stoppage time to complete the scoring.

First Gary Robinson found the net a minute into time added on, and three minutes later Harland grabbed his second of the game to give his side a 6-0 win.

A week later Runcorn travelled down to Market Drayton Town, and returned with their eight successive league win after another high scoring win. Jamie Apperley opened the scoring on 14 minutes and added another on 26 minutes. Goals from Connor Spiers and Kieran Alley inside two minutes then put Runcorn firmly in control with a four goal lead at the break.

Nine minutes into the second half, Charlie Harland made it five before Liam Kennington added the sixth from the penalty spot just before the hour mark. It wasn't until the last minute that the next goal came with Matty Vickers securing a 7-0 win.

The final game of the month saw Runcorn travel to Sandbach United in the Quarter Final of the Edward Case Cup. A tighter game this time around with nothing to separate the sides at the break. Jamie Apperley then put Runcorn ahead two minutes into the second half with Connor Spiers adding a second on 55 minutes. It remained that way until three minutes into stoppage time with Joe Bevan netting a consolation from the penalty spot.

That gave Runcorn 11 points from their 3 games for a 3.67 average.

Stockport Georgians were their nearest challengers with two wins and a draw, with Haughmond also doing well with two wins and a loss.
