Weekend 16 in the NWCFL saw the Second Round of the Isuzu FA Vase plus the usual league action for the other clubs.

Isuzu FA Vase

It was a great day for NWCFL sides in the FA Vase, with nine sides making it through to the Third Round of the competition.

The headlines go to Fulwood Amateurs in their first ever FA Vase campaign who made it four wins from four games in the Vase this season. They travelled to Northern League side Yarm & Eaglescliffe, and after a goalless first half, soon found themselves two goals behind. It remained that way until stoppage time when Fulwood hit back. A minute into stoppage time Spencer Lucas pulled one back, and then three minutes later the scores were level through Ben Jackson. The final whistle followed before Fulwood won 5-4 on penalties.

Nelson and Prestwich Heys reached the Third Round of the FA Vase for only the second time in their histories. Nelson progressed with a 2-0 win at Premier Division side Charnock Richard. A Jamie Edwards goal midway through the second half was followed by an Own Goal which was enough to see the Admirals through. Prestwich ground out a goalless draw with Irlam, but kept their composure in the penalty shoot out which they won 4-2.

The 1989/90 season was the last time Droylsden were in the Third Round, but they are again after a 4-2 win over Northwich Victoria. After trailing 2-0 at the Butchers Arms inside 19 minutes, they hit back at the end of the first half with a Nellson Van double. Van went on to complete his hat-trick in the second half with Cody Artwell securing the win just before the hour.

It was even longer since Burscough reached the Third Round, that coming in 1997/98. They are through to it this season after a 3-1 win over Ashton Town. They took the lead with ten minutes of the first half remaining through Sam Turner with Kian Bell adding a second on 81 minutes. With three minutes to go, Daniel Squires reduced the arrears, and with Ashton pushing for the equaliser, they were caught with Turner adding his second seven minutes into stoppage time.

West Didsbury & Chorlton reached the Quarter Finals three seasons ago, and they are into the Third Round for the fourth successive season after a 2-1 win at Brigg Town. Kaleb Parkinson put them ahead after 20 minutes with Brigg levelling shortly after. With penalties looming, Brandon Dawson restored the lead in stoppage time to secure a memorable win.

South Liverpool have become accustomed to the Third Round of the FA Vase recently and they are there for the third successive season after a 4-0 win over Albion Sports. After a goalless first half, a Lee Hughes double put them on their way with Daniel Maher and Neil Weaver securing a comfortable win.

Chadderton are on their best Vase run since reaching the Fourth Round in 2014/15, and they are safely through after a 2-0 away win at Redcar Town. It was a close game with the breakthrough not coming until the 70th minute through Benito Lowe. Lowe added a second four minutes later to give Chaddy the win.

Premier Division leaders Ramsbottom United reached the Third Round two seasons ago, and they are also in it once again after a comfortable 4-0 away win at Crook Town. Jacob Holland-Wilkinson and Matthew Dudley set the tone as they put Rammy two goals ahead inside just nine minutes. Holland-Wilkinson added another on the half hour with Dudley adding his second in first half stoppage time. The second half brought no further goals but it was job done for Steve Wilkes' men.

Sadly we lose three other teams, one of which was Cheadle Town who held former winners North Shields to a goalless draw. It was not to be for Cheadle in the shootout, scoring just once as the Northern League side won 3-1 from the spot.

Barnoldswick Town lost 2-1 to our current First Division South Champions Winsford United. They fell behind to an early penalty before Gareth Hill levelled with a penalty for Barlick. Winsford won it with just three minutes remaining of normal time.

Holker Old Boys were denied even later at Albion Sports. They took the lead with just 15 minutes to go through Luke Mitchell with the home side levelling on 85 minutes. Two minutes later they fell behind only for Tom Dawson to make it 2-2 on 88 minutes. In the very last minute though, the home side added a third and held on a for a 3-2 win.

Premier Division

With Ramsbottom United in Vase action, Padiham missed the chance to regain top spot after a 1-1 draw at FC St Helens. Thomas Scarborough put the home side ahead with Ryan Moore levelling towards the end of the first half. The point was enough to move the Storks level with Rammy having played a game more.

Bryan Ly scored twice for Wythenshawe as they moved up to fourth place with a 2-1 win at Abbey Hey. Wythy led that game before Bradley Njine levelled only for Ly to give them the win.

Game of the day was at Longridge Town as they shared seven goals with Euxton Villa. Rajwinder Lippal put Villa ahead before Jack Anderton and Liam Atkinson turned things around for Longridge. Dan Singleton levelled with Atkinson restoring the lead for the home side, and that's how it stayed until stoppage time. Two minutes in, a second goal for Singleton made it 3-3, but it was not enough to get them a point as Atkinson completed his hat-trick three minutes later to secure a 4-3 win.

Glossop North End put their managerial troubles behind them with a 2-1 win in the derby match at Stockport Town. They led 2-0 through Dylan Switters early goal and Jacques Etia's second with 17 minutes remaining. Oliver Kvaternik's goal with two minutes remaining proved a consolation.

The final game saw Pilkington leave it late to secure all three points at FC Isle of Man. Ryan Beigan put them ahead with 20 minutes to go before Adam Adebiyi levelled five minutes later. Kyle Robinson-Murray hit the winner for Pilks two minutes into stoppage time to give them a 2-1 win.

First Division North

With most of the top sides in Vase action, Maghull extended their lead at the top of the division to three points, however it could have been more as they were held to a draw at bottom placed Garstang. Jacob Til and Sam Smith put them two up inside 19 minutes, with Vaughn Green pulling one back on the stroke of half time. Stephen Mercer levelled six minutes into the second half, with 2-2 the final score.

Colne came out of the blocks flying in their game with Darwen, with Barney Wiggin, Miles Storey and Jack Holt putting them three ahead after just ten minutes. Storey added another to make it four just after the hour, with Bradley Sixsmith netting a consolation with nine minutes to go.

MSB Woolton climbed out of the bottom three with a 2-1 win at Squires Gate, with the home side taking their place in the drop zone. It was Gate who took the lead just before the half hour through Ryan Riley, with second half goals from Daniel Ventre and Matthew Robinson giving Woolton a vital three points.

Just up the road, Bacup Borough climbed to sixth place after a 2-1 win at Thornton Cleveleys. Kyle Higham opening the scoring after a quarter of an hour with Oliver Hodgson levelling five minutes later. Kyle Siddle's penalty proved the difference, that coming five minutes into the second half.

AFC Blackpool beat Ashton Athletic 2-0 with James Hughes' penalty opening the scoring with just 20 minutes to go. Anthony Topolski added a second with five minutes left. And in the final game honours were even between Steeton and Daisy Hill in a 1-1 draw. Liam Sheppard gave Daisy Hill the lead at Steeton only for the home side to hit back through Aidan Kirby's penalty with five to go.

First Division South

Leaders Runcorn Town remain six points clear after a 3-1 home win against Stockport Georgians. Charlie Harland opened the scoring midway through the first half for Runcorn, but they were stunned on the hour as an own goal brought Stockport level. They regained the lead with nine minutes to go through Jorge Dwyer, and added a third just 60 seconds later through Tom Ruffer.

Eccleshall remain second after a very late show secured them the points in a 1-0 win against Ashville. The only goal of the game came TEN minutes into stoppage time, Ben Marshall the hero for the home side.

Its two games without a win now for third placed Telford Town, who also left it late to secure a 2-2 draw at home to Wolverhampton Sporting Community. Kyle Hayden put Wolves ahead on 20 minutes with William Osborne levelling with seven minutes of the first half to go. Festus Chale then restored the lead on 56 minutes, but four minutes into stoppage time, Joe Care scored to rescue a point for Telford.

Biggest win of the day came at Sandbach United who beat Allscott Heath 4-1. Ryan Goodwin's goal opened the scoring with Kian Newnes levelling just before the hour. It remained that way until 17 minutes from time when Sandbach regained the lead through Kyle Foley. Further goals from Joe Bevan and a penalty from Foley secured the win.

New Mills fell behind after just two minutes at Cammell Laird 1907 to a Callum France goal. However second half goals from Joshua Lowe, Bobby Carter and Harry Dean gave them a 3-1 win. Wolverhampton Casuals also scored all their goals in the second half as they beat Haughmond 3-0. Zak Poskitt scored twice with Lee Chilton getting the other.

Alsager Town fell behind towards the end of the first half at Shawbury United, but they were ahead by the break after quickfire goals from Alfie Carmichael and Luke Nicholls. A Carmichael penalty seven minutes into the second half made it three, with Charlie Evans goal on 74 minutes proving a consolation.

Barnton continue to do well with Malachi Babayale putting them ahead at home to Foley Meir on 20 minutes. Daniel Ward levelled with 20 minutes remaining, only for Joel Hind to give the home side a 2-1 win five minutes later.
