As the 2022-23 League season starts to get close to the end, a number of issues were resolved across a number of high profile games across the region today.  First order of business was at Brookburn Road where Premier Division Champions, Vauxhall Motors were presented with the Championship Trophy by League Chairman, Paul Lawler following their 0-2 away win over West Didsbury and Chorlton.

Avro claimed the runners-up spot in the Premier Division, this was secured with an emphatic 4-0 win over Barnoldswick Town at The Vestacare Stadium.  They will now go into an inter-league play-off next weekend for a winner take all game for a promotion spot into Step 4.  They will likely hear who their opponents are on Tuesday.  Wythenshawe Town were still in the running for runners up at the start of play, however Avro's win, combined with Town's defeat sees the Wythenshawe club finish a creditable third.

In Division One the play-off semi-finals were played today and in Division One North both games went to penalties.  Chadderton booked their place in the Division One North Play-Off Final by defeating Euxton Villa 9-8 in the shootout whilst their opponents in the final will be FC St Helens who defeated Ilkley Town 4-2 on spot kicks after an enthralling game at the Windleshaw Sports Ground.

In Division One South, Sandbach booked their place in the play-off final by defeating Brocton 3-1 in front of a bumber crowd of 628 and they will be joined in that final by Cheadle Town, who defeated Stockport Town 0-2 at Stockport Sporrts Village.  Those two play-off finals will take place next Saturday (29th April) at Chadderton FC (Vs FC St Helens) and Sandbach United FC (Vs Cheadle Town) respectively.

In the First Division Champions Cup Final it was Division One South's Wythenshawe Amateurs who added to their silverware for the season as they defeated Pilkington FC 2-1 in a closely contested game.  Both teams will be plying their trade at Step 5 next season.

There were a number of league games elsewhere around the NWCFL Premier Division this weekend with some impressive results for some clubs.  Steve Wilkes signed off from his tenure as Northwich Victoria Manager with an impressive looking 0-1 away win at Burscough.  It was the end of an era for Charnock Richard too as Carl Grimshaw played his 524th and last game for the club in their 3-2 home defeat to Prestwich Heys.  Bury AFC finished a long season on a high with a 5-1 win over Winsford United, a result which will see them finish in fourth spot.

A busy weekend for sure, but there's still business to attend to.  Next week will see Garstang travel to Bacup Borough on Monday night, they will have a chance to get themselves out of the final relegation spot in Division North if they win.  Bacup with travel to Nelson on Wednesday evening in their last league game of the season as they prepare for two Cup Finals (literally!).  Then we get to next weekend, but thats something we have already touched on.
