Successful Non-League Dog day at West

Our second Non-League Dog Day was a roaring (or should that be, woofing) success – 539 spectators came down for the game.

More importantly, there were 58 dogs who blessed us with their presence: each and every one being magnificent. Although it was around 20 short of the record set by Maltby Main last season, we can be proud of the effort – and it gives us a perfect excuse to try again next campaign.

Sky Sports News came down to capture some footage of the day – including our half time dog show. Judged by Krombacher Ultra Amy, top prize was given out to Willow the Wader, who had come all the way from Biggleswade in Bedfordshire to take part in the festivities.

Second place was given to West super fan/Instagram celebrity Bella, while Digby took home the bronze medal. Each and every dog who showed up was worthy of the prize – as proven by the lively debate in the stands during the second half over who should’ve taken the crown.

Even the humans got into the swing of things – one of our Stonecutter supporters stuck to a bet and came dressed as a Dalmatian (pictured below), while our mascot Shay dressed up himself in order to walk to teams onto the pitch (and was captured by Sky Sports doing so, in a moment that has melted a million hearts).

On the pitch, West put in a dogged performance to secure a point against Padiham and we’d like to thank @NonLeagueDogs for being the inspiration for the day (as well as being kind, generous, and supportive to boot), all of our volunteers for making the day possible (the club literally would not exist without the energies expended by these kind hearted souls), and for vociferous support given by all 539 spectators during the game.
