James McShane, one of the most prolific strikers in the NWCFL in recent years, has joined Stockport Sports from Premier Division rivals Runcorn Town.

Striker McShane enjoyed an impressive career at Runcorn Town, netting an incredible 143 goals in 197 appearances.

Saxons director Wayne Ashworth spoke of his delight at securing McShane's signature.

"Over the last twelve months various members of The Saxons board and management team have been to watch James play with a view to bringing him into the club", said Ashworth.

"Every time we saw him we were impressed with his movement, his ability to attack the ball and make the sort of runs that defenders hate. His goal scoring record speaks for itself, but there is more to James McShane that just goals.

"He leads from the front, he's extremely vocal and he uses his experience to help those around him. This is a fantastic signing for Stockport Sports. We have pursued James for quite some time and we are thrilled that we have finally clinched his signature"

Club secretary Chris Culkin also commented on the signing.

"At times last season, some of the football played under our manager Darren Finch was exceptional", Culkin said. "The one thing that seemed to be missing was the killer instinct, that ability to put the ball in the net.

"We are absolutely delighted to bring in a player who we consider to be among the best, if not the best striker in the league. If James McShane is given the service we know this team can provide then we can expect lots of goals next season".
