Saxons Striker Moves To Stoke

Stockport Sports striker John Marsden has joined Barclays Premier League club Stoke City after a period on trial.
The striker, who was on the books of both Wigan Athletic and Celtic as a youngster, appeared for The Potters in friendly games and also in the Under 21 side during his recent trial spell at the club, and now makes the move permanently after scoring 21 goals in 31 appearances for the Saxons this season.
Saxons Chairman John Hindley said: "John has been an absolute pleasure to have at this club. He came here following his release by Celtic and has worked so hard to get back into the professional game. His attitude and effort have been first class and he deserves everything that he gets out of the game"
"He is an example to all our young players, a proof that with the correct attitude, application and desire then people will notice and they will get a chance to progress. That is exactly what we are looking to achieve here at Stockport Sports.
“We want to give talented young players a high standard of coaching, the chance to play at a good standard in a very competitive league and an opportunity to make their way back into the professional game"
"John has had great support from his family, and this move just shows that the opportunity is out there for players to make their way in football if they are good enough and put in the work. It is proof that being released by a professional club does not necessarily mean the end of a players professional career"

In a statement on the club website, John Marsden said: “During my time at Stockport Sports I received coaching from the club, and from this my all round game almost certainly benefitted, and as a result of it, as well as my advisors guidance and involvement, I was able to secure a move to Stoke City.
“I am relishing the chance to once again train and play with and against the high calibre players such a move offers, and I intend to continue to work extremely hard on all areas of my game moving forward.
“I would like to thank the Directors at Stockport Sports for allowing this move to happen, and I will certainly be keeping an eye on the clubs fortunes in the future”.
