Review - Week Two Games

Saturday saw games in the Emirates FA Cup, Edward Case Cup and the League. We review all of the action.


 Emirates FA Cup

The Emirates FA Cup started on Saturday, with five of our sides through to the next round and a further six involved in midweek replays to join them.

Congleton Town progressed with a 4-0 win at Abbey hey. Daniel Needham scored twice in the first half with further goals from Darren Chadwick and Tom Pope sealing victory. Avro also had a 4-0 away win at Irlam. Goals from Ethan Sutcliffe, Geffry Ebhote and the a Rathbone penalty put them three ahead at half time, with Jake Cottrell adding another in the second-half.

Kendall Town had a great away win at thornaby. It was goalless at the break before Finley Lynch, Ben Thomas and Thomas Kilfin put them three ahead, with Jamie Davis pulling one back in stoppage time.

Northwich Victoria scored twice in the first half at Squires gate through Ashley Dunn and Brandon barski. The home side replied through Ryan Riley just after the hour but Northwich hung on for the win. The final side through are West Didsbury and Chorlton who won 1-0 at Longridge town, Ben Hampson with the only goal 18 minutes from time.

Ashton Athletic were unlucky at Northern Premier League side Prescot cables. A Richard Brodie goal on 55 minutes saw them lead until three minutes into stoppage time when James Foley equalised. Prestwich Heys and Litherland REMYCA also drew 1-1, Jamie MacDonald's goal for the visitors cancelled out by Conor Berry for the home side.

Albion Sports lead one nil at Barnoldswick town thanks to Kamron Basi's goal in the first half. Barlick rescued a replay with Kuda Chingwaroscoring in stoppage time. The fourth game to finish 1-1 was Winsford united against Widnes. James McCulloch put the Northern Premier League side ahead on 10 minutes with Daniel Bolden equalising from the spot just before the hour.

Yorkshire Amateur led 2-0 after just 21 minutes against Charnock Richard, Jamal Stewart and Omar Gikineh on target for the home side. Taylor Brickell pulled one back on 54 minutes with Carl Grimshaw levelling in stoppage time. The final draw so Bury AFC play their first ever FA Cup match, and they were held to a goalless draw at Hallam.

Wythenshawe Town lost 2-0 to last seasons Premier Division Champions Macclesfield, but it was not all plain sailing. Alex Curran got both goals for the Silkmen, the first six minutes into first-half stoppage time and the second ten minutes into second-half stoppage time!

Vauxhall Motors were beaten 2-0 at Whitchurch Alport, a Jud Ellis doubled in the first half giving them passage. It was a similar story for new mills who lost two nil at Ossett United with first half goals from Basile Zottos and Joe Stacey seeing them through. Lower Breck also lost 2-0 to Penistone Church, goals in each half from Tom Charlesworth and Nathan Keighthley doing the business.

An own goal five minutes from time saw Silsden beat Burscough 1-0, whilst an Elliot Morris double saw Skelmersdale United beat Padiham 2-1. Ben Hudson got the only goal for the Storks.

The final game saw AFC Liverpool beats and six nil at Trafford, Tom Bentham grabbing a hat trick, Saj Elhassan score two with Ryan Morton getting the other.


 Edward Case Cup

It was a good day for our new sides in the Edward Case Cup with three of the five sides progressing. FC St. Helens had five different scorers in the 5-1 win over Darwen. Joe Barker, Michael Houghton and Liam Bolt put them 3-0 ahead after just 19 minutes. Christopher Lynch pulled one back six minutes into the second-half with Ryan Mason restoring the three goal lead almost immediately. Brad Green secured the win six minutes from time.

Euxton Villa scored another four on the road, this time in a 4-2 win at Atherton LR. The home side took the lead through George Chadwick the first minute with Michael Galliers levelling. Patrik Bibby then put Euxton ahead in stoppage time with Lewis Rawsthorne levelling on 48 minutes. Further goals though from George Davis and Matthew Davis put Euxton through.

Foley Mia progressed to the next round with a 21 win at roster. The home side took the lead on 33 minutes, however an own goal on 74 minutes levelled things before Jay Finney hit the winner 10 minutes from time. Ashville took an eighth minute lead through Ben green up against eccleshall, however the visitors wrapped up their third successive victory through goals from Jack Flanaghan and Anthony Malbon.

A Kyle Wych penalty on 38 minutes gave Stockport Georgians the lead at Abbey Hulton United. Sam Smedley levelled 10 minutes into the second-half with the game finishing 1-1. It was Abbey Hulton who progressed to the next round winning 7-6 on penalties. The final game saw Ellesmere Rangers and Alsager Town draw 0-0, with Ellesmere also winning 7-6 on penalties.

Ilkley Town continued their good start of the season with a second successive 3-0 victory, this time over Runcorn Town. Tom Smith gave Ilkley a 5th minute lead, and that's how it stayed until 12 minutes from time when Nathan Hunt added a second. James Hughes added another 4 minutes in stoppage time.

That was eight goals to witness at the Riverside as Garstang beat Bacup Borough 53. Joel Darley put Garstang ahead before Anthony Hall levelled. Andrew Murphy restored the lead just after the half an hour with Jack Hayward levelling before half time. Two goals in three minutes through John-Jo Morris and Zac Clark swung the game Garstang's way. Louis-Simon Byrne pulled one back for Bacup on 67 minutes however Joe Noblet secured the win with 10 minutes remaining.

There were also goals at Daisy Hill where Nathan Reed gave Holker Old Boys a slender lead at half time. Goals from Connor Hughes, Connor J. Hughes and Mitchell Nolan put Daisy hill in command, with Jason Walker's goal six minutes from time setting up a frantic finish.

Chatterton made it two wins out of two with a 31 victory over Steeton first half goals from Mauro Mendes, Jordan Schofield and Adam Dale gave Chaderton a 3-0 lead at the break. Andrew Briggs scored a consolation for Steeton with 20 minutes remaining.

The final game saw Ashton Town take an early lead through Ethan van-Aston and that's how it stayed until the 74th minute when Jack Foster levelled. Jack Holt gave Nelson A2 on win with a goal five minutes later.

Cammell Laird 1907 took an early lead against Cheadle Town through Kieran Hamm, with Daniel Hewitt levelling six minutes before the break. Second-half goals from Callum McGlynn and Patrick Davin gave Cheadle all three points.

Wythenshawe Amateurs recorded a 1-0 victory over Stockport Town, the only goal coming from Kieran Curtis six minutes after half time.

The final game saw Barnton and Brocton share a 2-2 draw. A Liam Kennington penalty after 10 minutes gave Barnton the lead with Regan Smith levelling on 26 minutes. Barnton went up the other end to restore the lead through Thomas Edwards, only for Smith to get his second five minutes after the break to ensure the draw.
