FA VASE
No less than 24 NWCFL were in FA Vase action this weekend with the action starting on Friday night as Barnton hosted NCEL side Parkgate. The home side were quick out of the blocks and two goals ahead after just nine minutes, however two second half goals for the visitors saw scores end 2-2. That means penalties in the Vase, with Parkgate winning 7-6 from the spot.
Onto Saturday and FC St Helens rewrote the record books with a 9-0 victory over NCEL side Frickley Athletic. Not only was it the biggest win for FC St Helens in their history, it was also the biggest loss for Frickley Athletic in FA Competitions, a total of 247 games! Josh Briggs scored four for the Stripes, with Tom Scarborough getting two. Luke Byron, Michael Fitzgerald and David Ball were also on the scoresheet.
Holker Old Boys were also in record breaking form with a 7-2 home win against Northern League side Heaton Carew. In what was their 60th FA Vase game, Holker recorded their biggest ever Vase score, with Nathan Reid grabbing a hat-trick and Tyler Spence and Ryan Fagan getting two each.
Foley Meir recorded their first FA Vase inside 90 minutes with a 1-0 win over FC Stratford. Foley, whose two previous Vase victories were on penalties, had Finlay Foote to thank for the win with the only goal of the game. It was easier for Atherton LR who ran out 4-0 winners in the all NWCFL clash with Abbey Hey, Thomas Romano getting two for LR.
Woolton secured their second successive 1-0 Vase victory as they knocked out Litherland REMYCA. Colne were 2-0 winners at Northern League side Tow Law Town, with Thornton Cleveleys winning 1-0 at Newcastle Benfield.
Eccleshall progressed with a 2-1 home win against Coventry Sphinx, with AFC Bridgnorth winning 3-2 away at Coventry Copsewood. Ashville conceded deep into stoppage time to draw 2-2 with Athersley Recreation, before winning 5-4 on penalties.
Maghull won 3-1 at home to Club Thorne Colliery, with Harry McNevin scoring twice for Wolverhampton Casuals as they beat Studley 3-1.
Charnock Richard were the other winners, that coming on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Trafford. They had Nathan Nickeas' goal to thank in the 88th minute for the draw before winning 4-3 from the spot.
Squires Gate lost 4-2 at Blyth Town for whom Bailey Adamson scored a hat-trick, with Uppermill tasting defeat in their first ever Vase game by going down 3-2 at Retford. Telford Town lost 2-0 at home to Bewdley Town. Rugby Town scored three times in the first half to secure a 3-2 win against Shawbury United, with Crewe losing 2-0 at CotonGreen in their first ever Vase game.
Northwich Victoria progressed with a 3-2 win at Derby thanks to a late winner from debutant Lucas Edwards. Northern League side Shildon were the biggest winners against one of our sides as they won 5-0 at Garstang.
PREMIER DIVISION
With others in Vase action, Nelson climbed to the top of the Premier Division after a 4-0 win at home to FC Isle of Man. Max Cane and Sefton Gonzales put them two ahead at the break with Luke Hepple and Billy Priestley securing the win in the second half.
Burscough are second after a 3-2 home win against Chadderton, with Callum Laird hitting a late winner for the Linnets. Oliver Hodgson scored twice for Longridge Town asthey handed AFC Liverpool their eighth successive league loss.
William Procter netted a hat-trick for Barnoldswick Town as they won 4-1 at Euxton Villa, with Elliott Richardson's goal enough to give Prestwich Heys a 1-0 win at South Liverpool.
FIRST DIVISION NORTH
AFC Knowsley recorded their first ever home win in the NWCFL with a 4-2 win against Ashton Town. Ben Taylor scored twice for Knowsley with the last of them coming six minutes into added on time to secure the win. Chad Whyte scored both goals for Ashton.
It was a seven goal thriller on the Wirral as Cammell Laird 1907 beat AFC Blackpool 4-3. Ben Wood scored the opening two goals for Lairds, with Liam Owen scoring the winner.
Halewood Apollo beat Fulwood Amateurs 3-2, with Daisy Hill winning 1-0 at Bacup Borough. Flixton scored twice in the final few minutes to secure a 3-1 win at Ashton Athletic, that result seeing them climb to fifth in the league.
The final game saw Joshua Coe score twice for Steeton as they drew 2-2 at Maine Road, the second a penalty in the last minute to secure the draw.
FIRST DIVISION SOUTH
Jordan Crump and Harry Dixon both scored twice to give Bilston Town their biggest NWCFL victory, a 7-0 home win against Widnes Town. Also scoring seven was Allscott Heath who won 7-1 at Wednesfield Community, Ben Davies grabbing a hat-trick for Allscott with Kian Newnes also scoring twice.
Another big win came at Stafford Town who beat Alsager Town 5-2. Callum Parker scored twice for Stafford with Harley Renshaw on target twice for the visitors.
Market Drayton Town won 2-1 at New Mills, Armando Wood hitting the winner there. And Sandbach United were denied victory at Cheadle Heath Nomads when Jack Higginbottom levelled in stoppage time, Cheadle having twice led that game in the first half.
The final game saw Dawley Town and Brereton Social play out a goalless draw.
