MACRON CUP FIRST ROUND
The Macron Cup took centre stage on Saturday with 60 of our sides in action on Friday night and Saturday afternoon.
Burscough entertained Cammell Laird 1907 on the Friday night, with Callum Laird scoring the only goal of the game for the Premier Division side as they progressed into the next round.
Onto Saturday, and that pattern continued, with not one Premier Division side knocked out by sides from the North or South divisions.
The biggest win of the day was 6-0 which occurred in two of the games. The first came at Crewe who notched their biggest win since joining the league in the summer as they beat Brereton Social with Joshua Maris grabbing a hat-trick. The second was the later kick off over at FC Isle of Man where there was another hat-trick, Adam Adebiyi taking home the matchball after his team beat Widnes Town.
Goals were aplenty on the day with Will Sim also getting a hat-trick for Fulwood Amateurs as they beat Colne 5-0. Benni Smalls-Braithwaite also grabbed three for Flixton as they beat Uppermill 4-0, that their fifth successive win, with Joe Bacon also hitting three for Atherton LR as they won 5-2 away at Abbey Hey.
New Mills also hit five as they beat Maine Road 5-0, Finlay Dooner with a brace. Luke Hepple also scored twice for Nelson as they won 4-1 at Steeton, with Thomas Scarborough doing likewise for FC St Helens as they won by the same scoreline at South Liverpool.
Others to hit four were Charnock Richard, who came from 2-1 down to beat Longridge Town 4-2, whilst there was the same scoreline at Squires Gate where Euxton Villa scored twice in the last two minutes to win . Ramsbottom United and Maghull both won 4-0 against Cheadle Heath Nomads and AFC Knowsley respectively.
Eccleshall left it late to beat Shawbury United 4-2 with two goals in the last two minutes. Maxwell Chimenes scored two penalties for the Eagles. Halewood Apollo beat Ashton Town 3-0, with Holker Old Boys beating Garstang by the same scoreline.
Litherland REMYCA won 3-1 at home to Ashton Athletic, with Allscott Heath winning by the same scoreline at Market Drayton Town. Another 3-1 came at Barnoldswick Town who beat AFC Blackpool, whilst Bacup Borough were 3-0 winners at home to Thornton Cleveleys.
Irlam made it six successive wins as they beat Glossop North End 1-0, Jack Mitchell with the only goal there. Bilston Town are seven games unbeaten and they progressed with a 2-0 win at Stafford Town. There was also a 2-0 at the Butchers Arms as Chadderton beat Droylsden.
Barnton won 2-1 at Daisy Hill, Bailey Sherlock and Thomas Stanton with goals for them in the last five minutes, with Woolton beating Ashville 2-1. Another 2-1 came at Prestwich Heys who beat Trafford.
Four games were decided on penalties, the most thrilling coming at Telford Town where AFC Bridgnorth progressed 6-5 from the spot after a 1-1 draw. Wednesfield Community hosted Dawley Town which was also 1-1 with Wednesfield progressing, whilst at Foley Meir it was the away side Wolverhampton Casuals who progressed after a 1-1 draw.
The final game was at Sandbach United who played out a goalless draw with Alsager Town. Penalties then saw Alsager progress 4-2 from the spot.
