Paul Targets Rossy Survival

Despite being rooted to the bottom of the Premier Division, Rossendale United manager Paul Colgan is optimistic that his side can climb to safety.

Paul took charge at Dark Lane following the departure of John Hughes in mid-October, and in the intervening four months, the big freeze and the departure of some club officials made a tricky job even more difficult.  But Paul believes that there is now light at the end of the tunnel.

"I've been in charge for about 12 games in all, but the first seven or eight games it was just a case of running with what squad was at the club.  Various players left the club and then the whole board left shortly before Christmas which made life more difficult still.  We have managed to persuade some people to come back, such as Wendy Ennis, who does a great job on the admin side and that has been a great help.

"I've rebuilt the squad and I feel we are now at a turning point, and there are a lot of games still to be played.  The big freeze took a lot of games away from us, but I think that has worked in our favour.  It's given the squad a chance to bond together and the newer lads have had the chance to get to know everyone else a bit better. In effect, we've had our pre-season in the middle of a season.

"The second half of the season always changes, and I think in this league anyone can beat anyone.  I've been watching a lot of games around the league and I do think the sides near the top of the league can be beaten.

"We just need to work a little bit harder in games and put chances away, and if we do that we've got a good chance of getting out of trouble."
