Reaction to the draw

The regionalised nature of the Buildbase FA Vase draw at this stage has meant that two of our sides are potentially paired with each other in the Third Round of the FA Vase following today's draw. Should 1874 Northwich beat Tow Law Town in Tuesday's rearranged game, they will host Ashton Athletic in the next round, the Yellows progressing after a 1-0 victory over 2016 winners Morpeth Town on Saturday.

It is a tie that neither side would have wanted, a point made by Ashton Athletic Joint Manager Jay Foulds who said, "In this competition you want two things when the draw comes around. One is a home game and two is opposition from another league. On this occassion we didn't get the home draw, and depending on Tuesday night's replay, we may not have got a team from our league as well. But whoever we get, you are guaranteed that it will be a tough encounter at this stage. We will prepare the same way, and hopefully create more history for Ashton Athletic.

1874 Northwich Joint Manager Wayne Goodison said of the draw, "A draw against the side that has just eliminated the favourites for the competition might not have been who we would have picked had we been given the option. But the incentive to beat Tow Law on Tuesday is a home draw, which is all that you can hope for. Ashton are in our league, we know each other well, and I guess on the postive side thing from a league point of view is that it would guarantee our league someone in the Fourth Round. However we have to get past Tow Law first and that is our priority at the moment".

Stockton Town, conquerers of Bootle in Saturday's tie after extra time, will face a home tie again in the Third Round, this time against Bootle's tenants City of Liverpool FC. It is the first time that both sides have appeared in the Third Round, and it promises to be another good away trip for supporters of the Purples.

Manager Simon Burton said of the draw, "The North East is never an easy place to go and Stockton will be tough opponents. They have been superb over the last few seasons and turned over Bootle on Saturday to progress. They also have an artificial pitch up there that will no doubt give them a slight advantage. However I will be able to get some information on them from Joe Doran (Bootle's Manager) and we will have them watched before the tie. Our supporters were superb on Saturday and in large numbers, and they will no doubt make the trip to Stockton in numbers as well to cheer us on in the next round."

Runcorn Linnets have a tough looking, 320-mile round trip to the North East on Tuesday evening following a 1-1 draw with Sunderland RCA on Saturday. Should they win the replay, they will be at home in the Third Round against another Northern League side in Marske United. The two time Quarter Finalists will be familiar opponents to Linnets though, having met in the competition just two seasons ago, but Linnets Manager Michael Ellison is not looking past Tuesday's replay at the moment.

He says "Its a mouth watering home tie againsst Marske United in the next round, and they ended our run in the competition a couple of years ago. They are second in the Northern League and you don't get to that position unless you have quality in your squad. However we have a lot of work to do before we can even think about that game as we have a really tough replay against Sunderland RCA on Tuesday night. After going toe to toe with them on Saturday, we know they are a top side and we are expecting an even tougher game up there. We will have to be at our very best to progress and then we can look at Marske if we do.

The Third Round ties will be played on the weekend of Saturday 2 December 2017.
