Friday evening sees the first competitive action of the new Hallmark Security League season, when current League Champions Colne and League Challenge Cup Winners Atherton Collieries face each other for the opportunity to lift their first piece of silverware of the season.

It has been several years since the traditional game has taken place and the League's management committee hope it will become a regular event.

The game will take place at Colne's XLCR Stadium with a 7.45pm kick off. Admission prices are £6 for adults, £3 for concessions and £1 for children under 11.

Should the game end in a draw after 90 minutes, then the tie will be settled on penalty kicks.

John Deal, secretary of The Hallmark Security League, said: “The League Champions versus Cup Winners trophy was a regular competition that marked the end of the league season but fixture congestion led to the tie being scrapped. Unfortunately, the trophy used also went missing a number of years back before being unearthed last year and its find prompted the League’s Management Committee to discuss the possibility of reinstating the competition as a season opener.

“We would like to thank Colne and Atherton Collieries for agreeing to play the match and we hope a Friday night game ahead of the season kicking off on 6 August will generate interest among supporters and neutrals alike."
