Runcorn Town have today announced the death of their legendary supporter George Perris.
Many people from clubs across all three divisions of the NWCFL will remember and have been friends with George, who watched Runcorn home and away. A statement from the club reads:
"(The club) are today deeply saddened to announce the death of our legendary supporter George Perris following a year long battle with cancer.
"George has been to the majority of our games home and away following the club since we joined the North West Counties Football League in 2010, making many friends at opposition clubs that we visited. He would celebrate every goal that we scored with a swift drink from his hip flask, before having a few of his favoured Guinness in the clubhouse after the game.
"George loved celebrating with the players, committee and fellow supporters after the game, whether we won, drew or lost. He was always the first to thank the players for the efforts in games and applauded them off every game. He would also help out down the ground during the summer when we had our working parties for ground improvements.
"He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer just over a year ago, but despite his treatment, he never let it get in the way of him living his life.
"As well coming to our games, he was a true family man. With his beloved wife Angela, he made weekly trips to Nantwich to spend time with his granddaughters. He also ventured out on day trips on a weekly basis with Angela and his many friends, as well as going out to watch his beloved bowling team play each week.
"The thoughts of the committee, management, players and staff are today with George's family, and would ask that their privacy is respected at this sad time. Funeral details will be communicated in due course."
