They’ve done it! Bury FC are Champions of the NWCFL Premier Division!

On Saturday, Dave McNabb’s side hosted Burscough knowing that just one point would be enough to secure the league title. It would’ve taken a defeat and a six-goal swing in favour of second placed Lower Breck, away at Cheadle Town, to stop the trophy heading to Gigg Lane.

What do you know – Bury didn’t need to worry about what was going on at Cheadle. Tyler James proved his worth to the Shakers, scoring three of their four goals on the day after Aiden Walker had gotten the ball rolling, to shut Burscough out and win 4-0 in front of nearly 9,000 people.

Bury took their total points tally for the season to 109 – the third highest ever in NWCFL Premier Division history, behind only Newcastle Town in 2010 (114) and FC United of Manchester in 2007 (113).

As a result of their league title victory, they will be playing Northern Premier League football next season, ending a five-year stint with the NWCFL.

Manager Dave McNabb said of yesterday's game, "I'm absolutely delighted to pick up the three points that have seen us get over the line and be confirmed as league champions.

"It's been such a tough season this year, with the standards being absolutely through the roof. To have to amassed 109 points and to win the league on the last day is incredible.

"A Massive well done must also go to Lower Breck, who pushed us all the way. With 106 points, they absolutely deserve promotion."

Congratulations to everyone involved at Bury! We wish them the best of luck with what the future holds.
