Club of the Month February 2023

We are delighted to confirm our Club of the Month winners for February 2023. 

The league have a formula to work out our Club of the Month based on whether games were home and away and the quality of the opposition.  January winners were are as follows:.

Premier Division - Avro & Bury AFC (Joint Winners)

It was a very close run thing in the Premier Division in February once again. Wythenshawe Town won three of their five games, with Prestwich Heys winning five out of six and Northwich Victoria winning six out of eight. However coming out on top of the averages were Avro and Bury AFC, our first joint winners of the award since August 2014!

Avro had home victories against Burscough, Squires Gate and Irlam and also picked up victories at Padiham and Kendal Town (Macron Cup). Their only blemish on an otherwise perfect month was a 2-2 draw at Kendal Town in the league.

It was on the road where it happened for Bury AFC this month. They won at Litherland REMYCA, Ashton Athletic and Burscough as well as drawing at Congleton Town. They also were victorious at Tring Athletic in the FA Vase. They only had one home game, that being a goalless draw against West Didsbury & Chorlton.

First Division North - FC St Helens & Steeton

Joint award winners are like buses. Wait for eight years for one to come along, and we get two in the same month!

In the First Division North in January, there was nothing to separate FC St Helens and Steeton at the top of the division.

Chadderton pushed the duo all of the way, playing eight games in the month as they won six of them and drew two, however their average was slightly below the winners.

FC St Helens played seven games in the month. They had a home wins against AFC Blackpool and a Macron Cup win over Premier Division side Squires Gate. They also drew 2-2 with Cleator Moor Celtic. On the road they won at Daisy Hill and Bacup Borough, with draws at Chadderton and Nelson.

Steeton played one game less but had four wins on the road at Pilkington, Daisy Hill, AFC Blackpool and Cleator Moor Celtic. They also beat Darwen FC at home, with their perfect month blotted by a home loss to Nelson.

First Division South - Wythenshawe Amateurs

In the First Division South in January, Brocton and Cheadle Heath Nomads both won four out of six games with Stockport Town going through the month winning six of their seven games. However just pipping them this month was their promotion rivals this season Wythenshawe Amateurs. 

Wythenshawe won five of the six games that they played, with victories on the road at Eccleshall, Abbey Hulton United and Alsager Town. They also had home victories over Rocester and Ellesmere Rangers, with their only points dropped coming in a goalless draw at Stockport Georgians.
