The NWCFL are delighted to announce the Reusch Goalkeeper of the Month awards for December.

The winning shot-stoppers are; in the Premier, Callum Jakovlevs (Charnock Richard), in the First Division North, Jack Atkinson (Bury AFC), and in the First Division South, Andrew Jones (West Didsbury & Chorlton). We'd like to congratulate all three keepers on their performances, which you can find out more on below.

Charnock Richard keeper Jakovlevs had an outstanding month, keeping two clean sheets as the Lancashire club picked up 7 points from a possible 9 to see them move to fifth in the Premier. His nomination highlighted his importance to Ryan Donnellan's side:

'Callum has performed well since his arrival at Mossie Park. He is a very experienced goalkeeper and is a former Burnley academy graduate. On leaving his home town club he had spells with Nelson, Bacup Borough, Clitheroe, Silsden, Preswitch Heys and Wythenshawe Town. Callum joined Charnock Richard in early October 2021 and made his debut at Mossie Park on the 13th October 2021 in the North West Counties League Premier Division game against Northwich Victoria.'

Bury AFC's impressive form throughout December sees them leading the way in the First Division North, and Andy Welsh may have outstanding performances from Jack Atkinson to thank, as he kept an important clean sheet away to Steeton on 27th December. The Shakers have won their past three games and it is clear how crucial Atkinson is seen for the club, his nomination noting:

'Jack has been in great form in the league in the weeks following his injury as have the rest of the defensive unit. In the two league matches completed in December, Jack kept a clean sheet in one and only conceded one in the other.'

Last, but not certainly not least (and certainly not when looking at the table), West Didsbury & Chorlton's man between the sticks Andrew Jones had an exceptional month, keeping two clean sheets ini four games as the Manchester-based club continues their remarkable form at the top of the First Division South. An ever-present in Chris Rowley's side, Jones's nomination was quick to recognise how important he is to the team:

'Andrew featured in all four of our games in December, maintaining his ever-present status which has also seen him play more often than any other player in the First Division South with 32 appearances in all competitions. Andrew's reliability and professionalism have stood out ever since he joined West and he is always available, regardless of the opposition, day of the week or length of journey. While our results were slightly less consistent in December, our defence has remained resolute - conceding twice in four games, and keeping two clean sheets - with Andrew a key part of a backline that has shipped just 15 goals in 24 games, easily the best record in all three Counties divisions.'

Congratulations, again, to all three keepers on their deserved awards.
