FA Vase Fourth Round Draw

The draw has been made this lunchtime for the Fourth Round Proper of the Buildbase FA Vase. Ties involving our clubs are as follows:
Shildon v Warrington Rylands 1907
Congleton Town v Malvern Town
Ties will be played on Saturday 9th January 2021.
Draw in Focus
Shildon are a common opponent for NWCFL sides, and this will be the 28th time that they have played one of our clubs in FA Competitions, 17 of which have come in the Buildbase FA Vase.
The most recent fixture against one of our sides was earlier this season, when they won 2-0 at Bootle in the First Qualifying Round of the Vase, with Joe Posthill and Chay Liddle scoring second half goals to give their side a win.
The Fourth Round is unchartered territory for Rylands, although they did once reach that stage in 1983/84. They beat Rainworth Miners Welfare 4-1 in the Third Round but the tie was ordered to be replayed due to an undersized pitch! The replay was at Rainworth, with the Northern Counties East League side winning 1-0 instead!
For Shildon, their best was in 2012/13 when they reached the Semi Finals, agonisingly missing out on a place at Wembley as Tunbridge Wells won 4-3 on aggregate over two legs.
Malvern Town are not as common an opponent, although they have faced our sides on six occasions in the past, the last of which was last season when Whitchurch Alport knocked them out of the Emirates FA Cup.
In the Vase though we have to go way back to 2004 for the last time they played a NWCFL side, that being Skelmersdale United who beat them 3-1 en-route to the Fourth Round.
This is the fourth time that Congleton Town have reached the Fourth Round, losing to Willenhall Town in 1980/81 and Newcastle Benfield in 2013/14. They did though beat Billingham Synthonia 2-1 at this stage in 2003/04, and they went on to reach the Fifth Round that year - the best they have done in the Vase - before losing to eventual Finalists AFC Sudbury 2-0.
