Running from the 7th to 14th September is Air Ambulance Week, the only week in the year dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the lifesaving work done by our League Charity Partner and other air ambulance charities across the UK.
Organised by Air Ambulances UK, the national charity supporting these services, this campaign highlights the vital role air ambulance crews play in bringing emergency hospital care directly to patients at the scene.
Every year, air ambulance charities collectively respond to over 50,000 emergency missions across the UK. With an average mission cost of £4,748, these services form a critical part of the nation’s frontline emergency response.
It may surprise people to discover that the Air Ambulance's are not part of the NHS and receive no day-to-day government funding. Most importantly, air ambulances rely almost entirely on public donations from people like you.
The North West Air Ambulance has three helicopters, two based in Barton and one based in Blackpool – each with a distinctive yellow colour with a blue tail. The crew operates 365 days a year and covers much of the same area as the NWCFL across Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Cumbria and Merseyside.
Incidents can range from road traffic accidents, to cardiac arrests and head injuries – and everything in between. Calls can come in at any time, from anywhere within the North West and the crew has to be ready to deploy within a matter of minutes.
By supporting Air Ambulance Week, you’re helping save lives. Every donation helps ensure these services continue to be there when it matters most.
HOW THE NWCFL IS SUPPORTING AIR AMBULANCE WEEK
At all games across the NWCFL in the next seven days, clubs will be asking supporters to "Put a Pound on the Ground".
We are asking supporters to simply donate an extra pound directly towards the charity to help raise vital funds to keep the lifesaving crews flying.
There are 36 games during this period which also includes Emirates FA Cup and FA Vase games. Clubs have been supplied posters which should be visible on the gate.
All 62 clubs across the league have also been supplied with yellow collection tins which will be on display at the ground.
