Nelson win the First Division North!

On a goal-heavy day in the NWCFL this past Saturday, the major headline of the league came from The Daisy Arena, Little Wembley.
Nelson, playing their third-to-last game in the league this season, knew that maximum points against already relegated Ashton Athletic would be enough to officially secure them the league title.
The result was academic for the BB9 side. Max Cane and Connor Hughes got the ball rolling in the first half with goals that came just one minute apart, and the second half would see Cane, in particular, flourish.
He scored his second and Nelson’s third of the day with just over 20 minutes left of the game, before completing his hat-trick in added time to put the icing on the cake. Then, as a cherry on top of that icing, Jack Doherty found the net in the 93rd minute to round out a 5-0 victory and secure the league title.
Closest title challengers Droylsden, who had run a tremendous race against Nelson to this point, were not in action last weekend, which meant there were no results elsewhere for Nelson to concern themselves with on the day – their only objective was to win, and they achieved that with flying colours.
Following the game, first team manager Arron Ripley told the club’s official X account that the day was one that he “would not forget in a long, long time”.
He went on to say that he felt his squad “always had the belief, all along… …and now we’re going to enjoy it with the owners, who’ve put serious time, effort and money into this, as well as, of course, the volunteers.”
Congratulations to Arron, his team, and everyone involved at Nelson Football Club on the success!
