World Sport Focus's Owner and Journalist, Steven Oldham (@spoldham) has taken a look at the weekends Division One South games and the various permutations that happened across the opening weekend. Steve has analysed all of the weekends games, highlights and early eye catching results as the opening weekend of the NWCFL produced goals and gates galore!

A crowd of 955 watched Droylsden beat Abbey Hulton United as the Tameside club played their first competitive game in three seasons as the First Division South got under way.

Dave Pace’s side were 3-0 winners at The Butchers Arms Stadium, which had been in a protected hiatus ever since the club resigned their membership of the Northern Premier League in 2020. Goals from George West, Toby Green and a late own goal gave the home side victory. The Bloods now face a first trip to Ashville in their midweek game.

Alsager Town picked up an impressive 5-0 victory over a shellshocked Winsford United side at Wood Park Stadium. Jack Woolley opened his account for the season with a hat-trick, in addition to Thomas Hassall’s opener and Sam Latham’s goal on the hour. Winsford – who voluntarily took relegation from the Premier Division over the summer to avoid a Lateral Move to the Midland League – are ineligible for promotion this season should they win the league or finish in the top five.

Will Shawcross also hit a hat-trick as Abbey Hey thrashed Stockport Georgians 5-0 at Abbey Park. It’s a strong start for brothers Chris and Jamie Baguley in the home dugout at Abbey Park, with Jake Parker and Rhys Clooney also on the scoresheet.

Last season’s long-time leaders Stockport Town are off to a positive start with a 4-1 home victory over New Mills. Jamie Hinchliffe was quick out of the blocks to give the visitors the lead, but Harrison Lomakin-Rogers equalised just before the break. Dan McLaughlin nicked a second half brace, and the victory was sealed by an own goal 20 minutes from time.

Barnton picked up a 1-0 win over beaten play-off finalists Sandbach United thanks to Amir Hajri’s early goal. Stafford Town were victors by the same scoreline at Cammell Laird 1907, with Matthew Gardener wrapping up all three points in the first half. Brocton and Maine Road couldn’t be separated in a 2-2 draw, despite the Staffordshire side twice taking the lead. Yasir Salim levelled the game on 73 minutes to secure a point for the visitors.

Finally, a pair of 1-1 draws, with Eccleshall tying with Ashville and league newcomers Market Drayton Town were held by Cheadle Heath Nomads at Greensfield Sports Ground.
