World Sport Focus's Owner and Journalist, Steven Oldham (@spoldham) has taken a look at the weekends Premier Division games and the movers and 'Shakers' of the opening weekend.  Steve has analysed all of the weekens games, highlights and early eye catching results as the opening weekend of the NWCFL produced goals and gates galore!

The Premier Division returned with a glut of goals on Saturday with the promoted trio of Wythenshawe, Pilkington and Chadderton all making winning starts to their season at Step 5.

Shane Goldrick’s Wythenshawe side put in an impressive display to see off recently-relegated Ramsbottom United 4-0 at the Selco Builders Warehouse Community Stadium. Chris Howard’s first half goal had looked to be enough before three late goals – including two in injury time – from Darrhyl Mason (2) and Bryan Ly added gloss to the three points in the club’s first game at this level.

Similarly, first-timers Pilkington were victorious in their trip to Blackpool, beating Squires Gate 2-0 through second half goals from Taylor Prescot and Jack Kelly. Chadderton proved too good for Litherland REMYCA, beating their visitors 3-0 thanks to first half goals from Jordan Jones, Adam Dale and an own goal.

5,451 fans packed into Gigg Lane to see a now unified Bury triumph 5-1 over Glossop North End. Andy Welsh’s Shakers were 3-0 up within half an hour thanks to a quickfire brace from Benito Lowe and one from Andrew Briggs. Jordi Nsaka added another before the hour mark ahead of Bevan Burey’s consolation for the visitors. Jack Lenehan rounded out the scoring two minutes from time. Such was the volume of fans descending on the ground – a new Premier Division record – kick off was delayed by 15 minutes due to crowd congestion.

It was a miserable opening day for all the clubs dropping back into the North West Counties. All four suffered defeat, with Colne well beaten at West Didsbury & Chorlton by 3-0. Darren McKnight scored both a free kick and a penalty either side of Ben Elliott’s header. Colne’s day went from bad to worse with skipper Alex Doyle red carded with 25 minutes to play.

Skelmersdale United also fell to defeat, going down 3-1 at home to Padiham. Benjamin Hoskin’s penalty gave the visitors a half time lead before Ben Jones equalised. Kyle Hancock re-established Padiham’s lead on 77 minutes before an own goal sealed the game for Michael Morrison’s side.

Ten man FC Isle of Man started their second season at Step 5 with a 2-0 win over Wythenshawe Town at The Bowl. A goal in each half from Sean Doyle and Dean Leece sent the majority of the 777 in attendance home happy, despite Dean Pinnington’s second half red card.

Burscough picked up an impressive 3-1 win over Prestwich Heys, with Daniel Boden (2) and William Riding on the scoresheet. Greg Daniels hit home for Heys.  Longridge Town recovered from 2-0 down to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw with Irlam, while the points were also shared between Lower Breck and Barnoldswick Town in a 1-1 stalemate.

Charnock Richard kicked off with a 1-0 win over Cheadle Town, with Jordan Darr’s second half goal enough to take all three points. Finally, Kendal Town beat AFC Liverpool by the same scoreline with James Bailey scoring the game’s only goal.
