Another Vics Vase day

It was honours even at Wincham Park on Sunday afternoon, with Northwich Victoria being held to a 1-1 draw by Chertsey Town in the Buildbase FA Vase semi-final first leg.

A fascinating clash is now in prospect down in Surrey on Saturday, with the tie delicately poised.

Vics have saved their best form in the Vase for away days, with impressive wins on the road at Newcastle Benfield and Histon, and they will need more of the same to book a place in the final at Wembley.

We all wish them well.

Town on form

One team that have been quietly going about their business in recent weeks are FC Oswestry Town, whose 2-1 win over Abbey Hulton United on Saturday extended their unbeaten run to seven games.

Their good run began in February, and clinched the club of the month award for the division, and after being presented with the award before the game, Saturday's win moved them up into third place in the First Division South.

They have played more games than the teams around them, but with three of their last five games at home, don't rule out a late promotion push from Matt Burton's men.

United looking good

Another team who are on a good run at the moment are Sandbach United, who have a two goal advantage going into the home second leg of the First Division Challenge Cup against Carlisle City this weekend.

The 4-2 win up in Carlisle on Saturday extended United's unbeaten run to nine games, stretching all the way back to January.

They may be a little too far off the automatic promotion place with just seven games to play, but current form suggests a strong finish to the season for Andy Hockenhull's men.

Longridge sharp shooters

Once again, Longridge Town's attacking prowess was in evidence at the weekend, as they increased their goals per game ratio with a 5-2 win over Steeton.

More impressive was the fact that Richie Allen's hat trick was the fifth time this season he has scored three or more goals in a game, and the 12th time that either he or one of his team mates has achieved the feat.

With firepower like that, it's little surprise that Town boast the best goals per game ratio in the league.

Home is where the points are for the Blues

Winsford United's 2-1 win over Litherland REMYCA was the latest in a sequence of good home league results for the Blues.

Lee Duckworth's men have lost just one of their last eight home games, and the one defeat was by a single goal to league leaders City of Liverpool.

The home form has helped to keep them just above the automatic relegation places, but with three of the next four games away from home, the challenge now will be to take the home form on the road with them.
