International duty for Dajour

Congleton Town’s Dajour McIntosh-Buffonge is the latest player from our league to return to action after being on international duty.
After coming on as a second half substitute for the Bears in their home defeat to 1874 Northwich on the 9th October, Dajour flew out to the Caribbean and was on the bench for Montserrat in their CONCACAF Nations League game against Belize on Sunday.
It turned out to be a good day for the team from the small Caribbean island, as they recorded an impressive 1-0 win.
Montserrat, which is a British overseas territory, has an active volcano and a population of just 5000 residents due to the migration of two thirds of the population abroad, as a result of the volcanic eruptions in recent years.
Until last month, Montserrat had not played an international game for three years and their opening Nations League qualifier in September ended in a 2-1 loss to El Salvador – an impressive result given that El Salvador are ranked 72nd in the world.
Under the guidance of national coach Willie Donachie - the former Manchester City, Oldham Athletic and Scotland defender who took charge of the national side earlier this year – and captained by Lyle Taylor of Charlton Athletic, Montserrat then built on that performance with their fine 1-0 win at the Blake’s Football Complex at the weekend.
Congleton Town Secretary Ken Mead said:
"We received a letter from the General Secretary of the Montserrat FA a few weeks ago, requesting that Dajour could be released to play in their forthcoming Nations League games.
"We agreed, of course, and wished him well.
"We also have former Port Vale player Anthony Griffith in our side, and he was with Dajour in the Montserrat squad for the last World Cup qualifiers, although he wasn't selected this time.
"Griff does a great job for us, so we are the beneficiaries there.
"It's always good to see our players receiving international call ups, and as the Montserrat FA have requested that Dajour is released for their Nations League games in November and in March next year, he looks set to achieve more international recognition for his country".
