Welcome to Avro

It had always been chairman Rob Fuller’s ambition to take the club into the NWCFL since he took over the running of the club 10 years ago.

When Oldham Council, who owned the land at our Grade II listed Lancaster Club home announced a decision to plan to build houses on the site in 2012, this led us after several years of negotiations and hard work, to be able to become the tenant at the Whitebank Stadium, which was the former home of NWCFL side Oldham Town.

This was completely redeveloped with a state of the art 4G pitch which is FIFA and RFL approved, new floodlights up to step 4 standard, and a completely refurbished club house. This enabled us for the first time to apply for promotion to NWCFL and fulfil those dreams.

We had always kept good relations and contact with sides who had left the Manchester League and gone to NWCFL such as Prestwich Heys so we were aware of the size of the task, but also knew that it was achievable, as Prestwich and West Didsbury & Chorlton had shown over the last few years.

We are just looking forward to getting going now and playing our first match in the Hallmark Security League!

I think most of us are looking forward to visiting new grounds after many years in the Manchester League, and making new friends across the region. The expansion is great and it is fantastic to see so many fellow clubs with the ambition to play in what is a great league.

We’re all working hard to get our name out there to attract sponsors and fans. Moving from our long established home at the Lancaster Club to the Vestacare Stadium in Limeside has been a challenge, as we look to attract our traditional fanbase area of north Manchester and also establish ourselves as a real affordable community club in OL8.

We had a crowd of 300+ on 2 occasions last season, so we are confident that with the top facilities that we now have, and the great football on display we can attract people to come and watch us.

Joint-Manager Lee O’Brien said: “ We are relishing the challenge at Step 6 and can’t wait for the season to begin.

”The lads had a great season winning the league & cup double, but we all know that is history now and we have a real challenge in front of us to make our mark in the NWCFL. With no play-offs this season the targets are clear.

@We have had great turnouts at the first training sessions, which has been really pleasing, and everyone has worked their socks off. The lads are chomping at the bit for the season to start. “

Chairman Rob Fuller said: “ Since I took over the running of the club it’s been my ambition for us to move into semi-pro football, and for that to have been achieved only 12 months after we moved into the new ground, that was basically a building site has been nothing short of a miracle – but a miracle produced by a lot of hard work behind the scenes from everybody.

"Everyone has lent a hand with a spade or a paintbrush and it has really showed the "Team Avro" spirit. Hopefully we can be successful and attract more people to watch us, and get more people involved – volunteers are always welcome ! “
