The final Saturday of the league season sees two “winner takes all” games in the Division One play-off semi-finals.

For the winners, it’s another step towards promotion to the Premier Division, for the losers the season is over and they have the summer to regroup and go again.

In the 3rd place v 6th place play off, Prestwich Heys host Cammell Laird 1907 at Adie Moran Park, with Lairds gunning for revenge after their last gasp defeat in the LWC Drinks First Division Cup final on Wednesday.

Prior to the final, Lairds were the form team having won four of their last five games, a run that propelled them into the final play-off spot after playing catch up.

Meanwhile Heys' recent form weakened under the weight of a heavy schedule, with six straight wins in the second half of April being followed by just one win in four in the first seven days of May.

Should Prestwich win, they will have home advantage in the play-off final by virtue of being the highest finishing club of the four play-off contenders. If Lairds win, they will travel in the final to face the winners of the other semi-final which takes place at Yockings Park between Whitchurch Alport and Sandbach United.

At least one hoodoo will be broken in this game as both sides were the losing semi-finalists in last year’s play offs, and again it’s a tough one to call with both sides in good form coming into the game, and just four points between them in the finishing league positions.

Sandbach have won their last three games including a 1-0 win over play off rivals Cammell Laird 1907 last Saturday, while Whitchurch are unbeaten in four games.

Both games will be played to a finish, with penalties if necessary if the game is tied after 90 minutes, and the play-off final will take place at the home ground of the highest placed winning semi-finalist on Thursday 17th May, kick off at 7.45 pm.
