Wembley dreams still alive for 1874

The scene is now set for a tense afternoon at Wincham Park this coming Saturday, after 1874 Northwich narrowly lost 1-0 to Thatcham Town in the Buildbase FA Vase Semi-Final first leg on Saturday.

It's a result that leaves the tie beautifully poised, and both sides will fancy their chances of sealing a trip to Wembley.

1874 have already stated that they have been overwhelmed with messages of support from fellow clubs and former players, and there's little doubt that will continue to be the case this week in the lead up to Saturday.

We all wish them well.

Home comforts for Padiham

Padiham's 6-1 win over West Didsbury & Chorlton on Saturday was the latest in an impressive run of home form for the Storks.

They have now racked up six successive league wins at home, racking up 21 goals in the process, and with nine league games still be be played at the Ruby Civil Arena, the stats suggest there are some awkward moments ahead for future visitors in the coming weeks.

Purps share the goals around

It was a good week goals-wise for City of Liverpool last week, with a 5-0 win over AFC Liverpool on Sunday followed up by an 8-0 win at Barnton in midweek, before the Purps rounded off the week with a fine 1-1 draw at league leaders Runcorn Linnets.

What was more notable was that the 14 goals scored were shared among 10 different players, an impressive statistic that suggests there's plenty of firepower in the Purple ranks.

Another Widnes record breaker

It seems like most weeks Widnes deliver a new talking point, and another one was delivered by their 4-0 home win over AFC Darwen on Saturday.

The result extended their unbeaten league run to 16 games - a new club record. What's more, during that run they have conceded just 12 goals, and only once have they conceded more than one goal in any game.

It's been a fine run, and shows no sign of ending any time soon.

Past outcomes are no indication of future results...

Expectations for seeing goals would no doubt have been high among supporters who attended the games between Bootle and Charnock Richard, and FC Oswestry Town and Silsden AFC, on Saturday.

In the Premier Division, only Runcorn Linnets have scored more goals than Charnock Richard, and Bootle have the best goals per game ratio in the division.  In addition, the last time Bootle failed to score in a league game was at the end of November, and in Charnock's case early November.

Meanwhile, Silsden AFC have the third best goals tally and goals per game ratio in Division One, and FC Oswestry Town have only once failed to score in a game since Christmas.  What's more, the corresponding fixture between the two sides last season ended in an incredible 6-6 draw!

It all looked good for a net bulging afternoon at both games - but they both ended in goalless draws.  Just goes to prove what an unpredictable game football is.
