Eccleshall to review options

Eccleshall are to consider various options after the sudden and totally unexpected departure of their entire management team on Sunday evening.

Dave Dale, Nick Farrington and Richard Farrington quit the club to return to Newcastle Town after their manager left the club by mutual consent.

The bombshell was all the more difficult to take following Saturday’s hard fought 4-1 victory against Stockport Town and was the third home win on the trot for The Eagles.

Eccleshall Secretary Jim Tunney said: “We are, understandably, very unhappy about both the timing and the manner in which they left the club, not to mention the situation it placed us in, facing a game on Wednesday evening and a home match next Saturday.

"I heard the news, which was totally out of the blue, around 7.30pm Sunday evening and could not believe it. We felt we finally had a stable management team who were gradually taking the team forward, playing good football, and making progress.

"Indeed, our impressions were that they were in it for the long haul as Dave had indicated he had ‘unfinished business’ at Pershall Park when he returned to the club.

"As if to rub salt in the wound, I received a seven-day notice from their new club at 10pm for one of our players, which was totally tactless in my view, bearing in mind the news we received earlier.

"I guess values like loyalty, respect, trust and commitment have all but disappeared from non-league football and the game is poorer for it in my view”.

As to the future, Jim added: “We had a committee meeting on Monday evening to discuss the situation and, as an interim measure, team management duties will be handled from within the club whilst we consider various options open to us.

"Team captain, Harvey Collins, attends the meetings as a player representative and he has pledged his support. We are also led to believe that the players are behind us in this situation and we are grateful for that”.

“Weather permitting, we move on to Saturday’s home match against New Mills and we will take things from there”.
