Division One Preview - 13th January 2018

With the weather set-fair for the weekend the stage is set for a busy weekend of fixtures in the Hallmark Security League Division One.
Looking at this weekend’s games we will start with Abbey Hulton United who take on promotion chasing Prestwich Heys at Birches Head Road. Abbey Hulton have been victims of the poor weather conditions of late and have barely played, although the stats show that they have won their last two league games albeit back in late December. It is a similar scenario for Heys’ as they continue to try and keep the pressure on Litherland and Silsden above them, they are unbeaten in the league since a 0-3 reverse at Cammell Laird back on 18th November.
In-form Daisy Hill host the league leaders Silsden AFC at New Sirs this weekend in an intriguing looking fixture. On paper this is 21st versus first in the league table standings, however a good run of recent form sees Daisy Hill in top six in the form table, above Silsden and of course they picked up the Club of the Month award for December too. For Silsden, they seem to be consistent and have two 6-0 home wins in their last three league games but do seem to be slightly hit and miss on the road of late with only two wins on their last seven away trips in all competitions.
Litherland Remyca look to try and keep the pressure on Silsden and the clubs immediately below them in the table as they take on Carlisle City at Litherland Sports Park. Remyca’s midweek game at Lairds was a surreal affair as from even before the kick off a band of fog was rolling in and by ten minutes into the game spectators couldn’t see the players on the pitch. The game eventually ended up abandoned at half time with Lairds 0-3 up at that time.
Carlisle are sitting in tenth at the moment with a couple of games in hand on the sides around them although last weekend’s 1-0 home defeat to Atherton LR was their second defeat in three league matches. If they are to break into that top six they will need to improve their consistency but face a tough task at Remyca who are normally very good at home.
Chadderton host Whitchurch Alport at the ARK Fleetech Stadium this weekend and will be looking for an upturn in form having slipped to 18th in the league table and lost five of their last six games, the latest of those being last week’s 0-1 home defeat to FC Oswestry Town. Whitchurch Alport currently sit fourth in the table with two games in hand and go into this game on the back of six straight wins in all competitions. If you are looking for any form guide from past results, in the four meetings between these two sides Chadderton have won two, Alport One with one draw between them, Both of Chadderons wins have been at home.
Atherton LR have reasons to be cheerful at the moment, they take on Stockport Town at Crilly Park after an eventful week or so that has seen them gain a decent looking 0-1 away win at Carlisle as well announcing on Monday the appointment of Warren Jones as the new gaffer. Warren has been Atherton Collieries’ Assistant Manager alongside Michael Clegg and prior to that he and Cleggy’ were the management team at Crilly Park before crossing over the road to create the amazing period in Colls’ history. The appointment is seen as quite a coup for LR so they will be looking for him to spur them on.
For Stockport Town, who currently sit eleventh in the table at present, they will be looking to make every game count as they look for a surge that will keep their play-off hopes going. They’re currently nine points off the top six at the moment and go into this match off three straight defeats. They did meet LR at home though back as recently as December 23rd and on the day they took all of the points in a 2-1 win at Lambeth Grove.
Nelson welcome AFC Blackpool to Little Wembley with only one defeat in their last four games in all competitions, that was last weekend in a 0-2 defeat at Cammell Laird 1907. The Admirals are still seven points adrift at the bottom of the table but they are getting some results going and are still very capable of getting out of the bottom two. For AFC Blackpool, their focus is also on the sides immediately above them but at the other end of the table. They currently sit in sixth spot, level on points with both Alsager and Whitchurch and go into this match on three straight wins and in good form.
Sandbach United meet St Helens Town at the Sandbach Community Football Centre and sees Sandbach in eighth looking to keep the pressure on the sides immediately above them. They have one win in their last four games, however it was a key one as they beat leaders Silsden 3-1 on 30th December. St Helens Town have only one defeat in their last three and are two unbeaten on the spin at home as Town adapt to their new-ish home.
Bacup Borough host Alsager Town at Brian Boys West View Stadium as the home side look to get some games played to start their expected climb up the table, still having only 16 league games under their belt so far. For Alsager it’s about consolidating that place in the top six and keeping the pressure on the likes of Whitchurch, Litherland and Prestwich. Alsager’s last six sees two wins, two draws and two defeats.
Cheadle Town take on New Mills at Park Road with games having been in short supply, certainly for Cheadle who have only played one game since 2nd December which was their solid 3-0 home win over Lairds on December 30th. These sides sit fifteenth and sixteenth respectively in the league table both on 24 points with New Mills having played a couple more games.
Holker Old Boys and Cammell Laird 1907 go head to head with only three points separating Lairds in seventh and Holker in ninth with the latter with a game in hand. Holker have only played one game since 16th December which was a 3-1 win away at Stockport Town last Saturday whilst Lairds had their midweek game at Litherland abandoned at had time.
Eccleshall look to try and end their run of seven straight defeats as they host FC Oswestry Town at Pershall Park. These two sides last met back in early December with FC Oswestry winning 4-0 on the day and unfortunately for Eccleshall that was only a fortnight after Oswestry had dumped them out of the Macron Cup. For those same reasons it’s likely that Oswestry will have fond memories of this fixture although they will be looking to continue their recent good form for other reasons as they still have a chance of making the play-offs but need a good run if they are going to achieve that.
