The winter chill that swept across the region took its toll on the fixture card at the weekend , with just six of the scheduled games beating the weather, five in the Premier Division and one in the First Division.

In the Premier Division, Widnes took advantage of the Select Security Stadium artificial surface, and the inactivity of others around them in the league table, to move into fourth place with a 2-0 win over Barnoldswick Town.

After a goalless first half, Jay Roberts and Jack Banister struck after the break to continue their side's recent run of good form.

Two games took place a few miles apart on Merseyside, and City of Liverpool recorded a good 4-0 win over a Maine Road side who had won back to back games at the start of the week.

Thomas Peterson set the Purps on the way with two goals in the opening 19 minutes, and the game was over by the midway point of the second half when Daniel Dalton added a third and then Peterson completed his hat trick in the 67th minute.

Down the road in Crosby, AFC Liverpool came from behind to win 2-1 at home to Bootle in the derby clash.

Connor Millington had put Bootle ahead in the 10th minute, but Kevin Edgar levelled on the stroke of half time for the Reds, and then struck the winner with seven minutes remaining.

The highest scoring game of the day was at the Brian Addison Stadium, where Squires Gate emerged with a 6-4 win over bottom of the table Barnton. Gary Pett was the star of the show for Gate with a hat trick.

Burscough remain in the relegation zone but edged a bit closer to safety with a 2-1 home win over Northwich Victoria. Matthew Ward gave the home side the lead midway through the second half, Rory Gorman then levelled for Vics 15 minutes from time, but Burscough emerged with the three points thanks to a last minute winner from Terry Cummings.

There was only one game that took in the First Division, but it turned out to be an entertaining affair on the artificial surface at Ruskin Drive, where Daisy Hill came from behind to defeat St Helens Town 3-1.

Shaun Brady gave Town a 13th minute lead, but a 25 yarder from Jack Burke brought Daisy back on level terms two minutes later.

In the second half Daisy missed a penalty, before their attacking pressure finally delivered two more goals in the last 17 minutes from Niall Callaghan and Michael Gervin.
