MACRON PLAYER OF THE MONTH AWARDS

PREMIER DIVISION - CARL GRIMSHAW

The month of November was a remarkable month for Carl Grimshaw, in what has been a memorable season to date for the Charnock Richard ace marksman.

Carl has carried over his goal-scoring achievement from last season when he eventually finished as Division 1 top scorer with a very impressive 45 goals, in what was the Villagers’ first ever season at Step 6 in the National League System.

During November, Carl netted 7 goals in the 6 games played and earned two man of the match nominations. The striker would have recorded the magical figure of 300 league and cup appearances for the club on 30th of November had the Macron Cup tie against Barnoldswick Town not have been postponed due to a frozen Mossie Park pitch.

Carl’s value to the team goes a good deal further than his goal-scoring prowess as he will be often seen clearing his lines at the heart of the defence. A natural leader, Carl is the Charnock skipper and leads by example. His determination and enthusiasm, as much as his panache in front of goal, marks him out as an extraordinarily popular figure amongst the chattering classes at Mossie Park.

Despite the step up in status this term, following promotion last season, Carl has continued to knock in the goals this season with regularity and has 18 goals to his name already in 2017-18.

Arguably, his best strike of his November hoard came in the AFC Darwen game on the 28th when his twenty-five yard controlled snap-shot was lifted over defenders and the stranded goalkeeper before finding the net; a spectacular goal indeed, and one to please the home support.

Most the other six goals he has netted throughout the month came via his usual goal scoring instincts by being in the right place at the right time and his heading ability. His anticipation and tenacity in and around the penalty is quite extraordinary, and his overall total of 356 goals in competitive games for Charnock Richard is a remarkable record that will be hard to beat.

DIVISION ONE - NIALL SULTAN OF SILSDEN AFC

The Cobbydalers' right winger was instrumental in helping his side maintain their position at the top of the First Division during the month.

He has lightning pace, is good dribbler and created many superb crosses for his team mates as well as having several of his own efforts saved.

He began the month with a goal in Silsden's 4-2 win at New Mills, after twice going close in the opening exchanges, and came close to scoring a second later in the game.

He then played an important part in the Cobbydalers' 5-1 win over Daisy Hill, with his pace and crossing ability tormenting the visitors’ defence throughout the game.

Niall's standout display came in the 4-0 win at Prestwich Heys, his pace once again causing all sorts of problems. He provided an assist for the third goal, and ten minutes from time he was upended in the box to win a penalty which Joe Gaughan converted to complete his hat trick.

The Cobbydalers' next game was away at Holker Old Boys, which was their first defeat of the season, but Niall was unlucky not to score and might well have been awarded a penalty in the second half when he cut into the Old Boys area went down under a challenge but the referee waved play-on.

Niall's contribution in the 2-1 defeat at Tadcaster Albion in the West Riding County Cup was only brief as he was forced off through injury after just 18 minutes, but he returned to play his part in the final game of the month, a 1-0 win over Nelson, and created a number of chances for team mates over the 90 minutes.

He is an important member of the squad as a creator of chances as well as chipping in with a few goals, and his form has been at the heart of the Cobbydalers's success in recent weeks.

REUSCH GOALKEEPER OF THE MONTH AWARDS

PREMIER DIVISION - RICHIE MOTTRAM OF WIDNES

Richie has been an ever-present for Widnes since returning to the Club for a second spell in September and this has been reflected in his form during the month of November.

Despite failing to keep a clean sheet in November, Richie’s veteran presence has made it an easy transition under new bosses Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey leading to a number of positive results and eye-catching wins over Bootle and Runcorn Town.

It was in the victory over the Bucks that Richie made significant contributions both defensively and in attack. He saved a first half penalty from Michael Ordish before providing an assist for Billy Webb who netted Widnes’ third goal of the afternoon.

While disappointment followed against Squires Gate, Widnes bounced back by ending Runcorn Town’s unbeaten start to league season with a 2-1 win at Pavilions.

Richie again made a telling contribution offensively, with his missile of a goal-kick assisting Towey’s magnificent winner late on. The shot-stopper displayed a calming presence in the dying moments, claiming a number of crosses to survive a late Town rally.

He continued his fine form one week later, saving three of Carlisle City’s four penalties in Widnes’ shootout victory in the Macron Cup.

Richie rounded off the month with two fine performances in wins over Irlam and AFC Liverpool, with his consistently good command of area and veteran presence showing how valuable Richie is to a relatively young side.

DIVISION ONE - RYAN MOSS OF SANDBACH UNITED

Ryan appeared in six games during November, and played an important part in a busy period for the club in which he delivered some impressive performances throughout the month .

In the away game at Holker Old Boys, he saved his third penalty of the season in a game in which Sandbach eventually won 2-1, but he saved his most impressive performance of the month for the away game at Tranmere Rovers in the Cheshire Senior Cup.

His role in the club's historic win cannot be underestimated, as he turned in an outstanding display to keep Tranmere at bay, not only for 89 minutes of normal time after conceding a goal in the opening minute, but throughout extra time too. His performance was all the more impressive as he received a bad blow to the head in the first half of extra time, which needed medical treatment.

He continued for the second half of extra time, and pulled off two stunning saves to ensure Sandbach held on to claim victory against a team 122 league places above them.

It was a display that was the highlight of a month in which Ryan once again proved he is one of the most consistent and reliable goalkeepers in the division.
