It’s that time of the year again folks, the cold snap and miserable weather has well and truly hit the North West this week, with 16 of the weekend's 22 scheduled games falling foul of the weather.

In the Premier Division, Burscough claimed their 3rd win in 4 games and moved out of the relegation zone, and 5 points ahead of Saturday’s opponents AFC Darwen with a 1-0 win.

Josh Dunroe struck the only goal just before half time in an important victory for Dave Sutton’s team at Victoria Park. Darwen are now without a win in 4 games as they still sit 2nd from bottom.

Abbey Hey moved up to 12th in the Premier Division by hitting 7 goals past bottom side Barnton who have now conceded 75 goals in 21 matches so far this season. A Daniel Heffernan hat-trick in the opening half hour sent them on their way to a 7-1 victory, with George Mannion scoring Barnton’s solitary goal.

Widnes moved into the top 6 due to teams around them not playing, as they dispatched Irlam 3-1 at the Select Security Stadium. Goals from Bradley Smart, Kevin Pollard and joint manager Kevin Towey put Widnes 3 goals to the good, before Jordan Icely produced a late consolation for Irlam, who sit 16th after a 3rd defeat in 4.

In Division One, Silsden extended their lead at the top of the table to 16 points with a 1-0 win over Nelson on Friday night, Chris Wademan on target for the Cobbydalers.

Holker Old Boys had arguably claimed the scalp of the First Division campaign last Saturday with a last-minute victory against table topping Silsden, who previously had a perfect record of 17 wins from 17 games.

However, the team from Barrow couldn’t follow this up as they were 4-0 down against Alsager at the break. Although they won the 2nd half 2-1, Alsager claimed a 5-2 victory to consolidate 4th place due to the inactivity of teams around them.

When FC Oswestry Town and St Helens Town last met in September, Oswestry were bottom of the table without a point gained in 7 league games. However, that form seems to be long gone as they are now top of the form table with 5 wins in a row after today’s 3-2 win against Lee Jenkinson’s team.

St Helens, who are now 6 points adrift in 20th, lead twice through Alex Ashby and Shaun Brady, with a Jack Harris equaliser in-between. The Blues couldn’t make their lead count as Sam Thomas hit an 83rd minute winner to move Oswestry up 5 places from 18th to 13th.
