DIVISION ONE PREVIEW

A Near full programme of Division One games takes place this weekend as the battle for the top six hots up.  A number of high profile games are scheduled as a number of top vs bottom games area featured this week.  It could be a week of consolidation for many or shock results for some.  With a number of league games taking place over the next week as well it is proving to be a key time for clubs with aspirations of the promotion kind.

Starting this week’s preview at Abbey Hulton United who take on New Mills at Birches Head Road.  Abbey Hulton have come off the boil of late, in their last eight games in all competitions they have won only one game and lost the other seven, a midweek 3-1 defeat at Cheadle Town in the LWC Drinks Division One cup being the latest of those.  New Mills have faired slightly better picking up a County Cup win in midweek as well as a few points here and there over the last month.  However they are without a league win since defeating Litherland Remyca 2-1 back on 7th October and currently sit thirteenth in the table but still in the mix.

Holker Old Boys take on Sandbach United at Rakesmoor with Holker having arrested a poor run of form of late with four points from their last two League games which were against Abbey Hullton and Alsager Town.  They crashed out of the Lancashire Cup in midweek as AFC Darwen beat them 3-0 at the Anchor Ground but they do well at home and are unbeaten at home in the league since August 30th.  Sandbach have been hot and cold of late although their games have come thick and fast, last nights LWC Drinks Cup game at home to Eccleshall was their third game in five days but that included the notable scalp of defeating Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park in the Cheshire Senior Cup.  They do travel well though so they are likely to test Holker’s home resolve.

At Litherland Sports Park, Litherland Remyca look to keep the pressure on Silsden and Prestwich Heys as they take on an in-form Atherton LR.  The Remy’ are not without form themselves as they are currently unbeaten in their last three in all competitions and only one home league defeat all season.  Atherton LR go into this game with three straight League wins themselves and only on defeat in their last six in all competitions which was a 0-2 defeat away to Radcliffe Borough in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy in midweek.

Second placed Prestwich Heys will look to try and consolidate that spot as they take on nineteenth placed St Helens Town at Adie Moran Park.  Prestwich, prior to their midweek Lancashire Challenge Trophy defeat to Charnock Richard were on a run of eleven without defeat in all competitions including seven straight wins.  St Helens Town have only one draw and six defeats in their last seven and have slipped back down the table having had a relatively productive second half of September.

AFC Blackpool look to continue their promotion push as they host Nelson at the Mechanics Stadium.  Blackpool are currently eighth in the table and have only one defeat in their last six in all competitions.  Nelson currently sit rock-bottom of the table on five points and a goal difference of -27 in what has been a difficult campaign for them, however their most recent win was ironically away at AFC Blackpool as they dumped them out of the Macron Cup at the first Round stage a few weeks ago.

Chadderton take one Cheadle Town at the ARK Fleetech Stadium with both sides in mid-table, on similar form and only two points separating them in the table.  At Pershall Park Eccleshall take on Carlisle City looking to continue their good run of form, three league games without defeat is how they stand going into this one. Carlisle City will be happy to get a league game on after a busy October of cup ties although their last league game was an impressive 3-1 home win over Whitchurch Alport on 28th October.

FC Oswestry Town take on Bacup Bourough at The Venue with only one defeat in their last five games in all competitions and that was against top of the table Silsden.  The Oswestry side currently sit 20th in the table but have made progress, they are seven points behind their opponents going into this game.  Bacup Borough currently sit sixteenth in the table and are only a few points away from the upper mid-table pack so they will be keen to progress and they currently go into this game with two wins from their last three league games, the most recent being a thrilling 4-3 home win last Saturday against Chadderton.

Top of the table Silsden AFC take on Daisy Hill at the Cobbydale Construction Stadium looking to consolidate their position at the top of the table, currently eight points clear at the top and more importantly eleven points clear of third placed Remyca.  They are currently unbeaten in the league and solid at home so represent a massive challenge to Daisy Hill who still only have the one league victory all season and currently sit in 21st place in the table.

Stockport Town and Cammell Laird 1907 go head to head at Lambeth Grove with both clubs keen to break into the play-off places.  Both are well positioned as ninth placed Stockport are four points off the top six and whilst Lairds are currently in seventh and only a point off the zone, Town have two games in hands on them, making this the old cliché of a six pointer! This is also the first ever meeting between these two clubs just adding to the interest in this game.
