Two Premier Division games, six in the First Division and a fistful of ties in the Second Qualifying Round of the Buildbase FA Vase provided the bill of fare at the weekend.

After Saturday's Vase ties, ten of our sides progressed through to the next round, and out of the five all-Hallmark Security League ties, four were played on Saturday.

Three of those delivered home wins, with the exception of the Merseyside derby clash between AFC Liverpool and City of Liverpool.

The Purples won 2-0 in front of a good crowd of 492 thanks to goals in each half from Danny Dalton and Tom Peterson.

In the other three ties, second half goals from Jonathan Hession, Ross O’Farrell and Matthew Davison sealed a 3-0 win for Charnock Richard over Bacup Borough at Mossie Park, and Litherland REMYCA staged an impressive comeback to win 3-2 after being two goals down inside ten minutes of their game against Chadderton.

An Andrew Bainbridge double had established the visitors’ early lead, but Josh Hamilton and David Crist squared the tie, and Harry Little struck the winner eight minutes from time.

There was an equally thrilling game at the Recreation Ground, with West Didsbury & Chorlton eventually winning 4-3 at home to Stockport Town, after Town had equalised three times.

Joe Shaw for West and Ashley Stott for Town both scored twice before Matty Kay grabbed a dramatic winner for West in the 90th minute.

In the one game played on Sunday, 1874 Northwich drew 1-1 with Congleton Town in the Cheshire derby clash.  Jake Parker equalised for 1874 three minutes after Emini Adegbenro had given Congleton the lead.

Six of our clubs progressed after defeating teams from other leagues, with the most impressive winners being Burscough’s 6-0 win over Armthorpe Welfare at Victoria Park, in which Peter Henerty and Lee Healey both scored twice.

Equally comfortable was Alsager Town’s 5-1 win over Nostell Miners Welfare, which was all over by half time as the Bullets led by four goals, including a hat trick from Taylor Attrell.

Ashton Athletic warmed up for their big FA Cup tie next weekend with a 3-1 win over Maltby Main at Brocstedes Park, in which Joel Brownhill, Daniel Regan and Daniel Smith hit the back of the net for the Yellows.

An 85th minute winner from Matty Boland clinched a 2-1 win for Irlam at home to Parkgate

Wins on the road were achieved by Hanley Town, who won 2-0 Studley thanks to goals from Dan Cope and Martin Stanyer, and AFC Darwen, who won 4-2 at Glasshoughton Welfare.

However, it was the end of the road for six more of our teams who lost to teams from the Northen and Northern Counties East Leagues.

Dronfield Town eventually won 4-2 against Barnton after the sides had been tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes, and a late goal sent Carlisle City tumbling to a 3-2 home defeat to Thornaby.

Sandbach United’s first ever tie in the Vase ended in a 2-0 home defeat to AFC Emley, and Silsden’s 100% record since the start of the season came to an end after a 3-0 reverse at West Auckland Town.

After winning 5-1 at Maine Road in the last round, Pontefract Collieries almost turned in a repeat performance at the St Luke’s Barton Stadium, wining 4-1 against Winsford United, and Garforth Town beat Nelson 3-2.

The top of the Premier Division sees Runcorn Linnets move to 20 points in second place, and Bootle climb up to third on 18 points after Saturday's results.

After Stuart Wellstead gave Linnets an early lead, goals from Adam Farrand and Peter Watling gave visitors Abbey Hey a half time lead at the Millbank Linnets Stadium.

A second half penalty from Wellstead rescued a point for Linnets, but it was also an excellent point for Abbey, given that striker Ashford Blake was in goal for the second half after to an injury to starting custodian Jonny Ilwaine.

Barnoldswick Town’s Lewis Mayers gave his side a 41st minute lead at home to Bootle, but an equaliser from Connor Millington and a winner from Lennon Whewell on his debut, following a midweek move from Litherland REMYCA, ensured the three points for the Bucks.

In the First Division, there were six games played, and Prestwich Heys moved up to third after their 2-0 win at St Helens Town, Max White and Jacob Wood on target for Heys.

It was a good day for FC Oswestry Town who picked up their first points of the season, goals from Sam Thomas and Jack Harris helping them to a 2-1 win at Cheadle Town.

Two second half goals from Jordan Arklie-Young were the highlight of Atherton LR's 4-1 win at New Mills, and Danny Keenan's goal in the 21st minute earned Holker Old Boys a 1-0 win over Daisy Hill, their second home win in the space of three days.

Kit Gregory's 80th minute goal proved to be the winner in AFC Blackpool's 3-2 victory over Cammell Laird 1907, and in the Staffordshire derby clash Eccleshall and Abbey Hulton United shared a goalless draw.
