Runcorn Town Football Club is delighted to announce a charity partnership with local charity CANSupport ahead of the 2017/18 Hallmark Security League season.

CANsupport is a cancer support fundraising group established by volunteers at the Delamere Centre, based at Halton Hospital in Runcorn. The Centre provides a range of services to its users including refreshments, complimentary therapies, counselling, access to a welfare rights service, lymphoedema therapy, and specialist courses to help patients with specific needs.

All of these services are offered free of charge to patients, their families, and anyone else who has been affected by cancer. As a lot of these are not funded by Warrington & Halton NHS Trust, CANSupport fund these vital services, as well as the travel expenses for their 42 volunteers who give their time to help

Runcorn Town FC will engage with its supporters to help raise awareness and funds throughout the season as well as endorsing the valued work carried out by the group. Bucket collections will be held at various games throughout the season, with the club also prominently featuring the charity on the club website and in the matchday programme.

Alan Bennett, who liaised with the charity to set up the partnership, said “I am delighted that the club chosen CANsupport as their nominated charity for the forthcoming season. I visited the centre recently and saw the facilities and the wonderful work the volunteers do first hand. We all know someone or family affected by cancer and the treatment and kindness shown there was first class.

“Hopefully we as a club can help them to raise some funds towards the £30.000 a year that they need just to survive, as well as raising awareness for a charity that offer services which many people would assume is offered by the National Health Service.”

CANsupport Trustee Ian Downing said “We welcome the partnership with Runcorn Town Football Club, and look forward to the opportunities it gives us to raise CANsupport’s profile in the area. We hope both parties will benefit from this by reaching more potential supporters.”
