As the predicted challenging weather starts approaching, there are still a number of games to be played and after a busy week of county cup games for a number of our clubs there is a near full programme of Division One action.

Starting this week at Pershall Park, where 21st placed Eccleshall take on high flying City of Liverpool with both clubs needing the points for differing reasons.  Last time out, Eccleshall took on AFC Blackpool knowing that a win could have put them ahead of their rivals and out of the relegation places, however Blackpool ran out 0-4 winners and now there is some daylight between the two sides.

Having appointed new Manager, Jamie Cullerton in midweek they will be looking for early progress.  A win keeps them on the coat tails of last weeks opponents and the clubs at the lower end of the table but a defeat and wins for others could put them into a fair bit of bother at the lower end.

The Purples faced Ashton Town at home in midweek and were much fancied, not just by themselves but by many observers in midweek but could only manage a 0-0 draw in awful weather conditions.  They will be looking for the three points to keep them in touch with the top two who both have games in hand on the Merseysiders.

Speaking of Ashton Town, they are a much different prospect recently with some astute player recruitment and some belief seemingly returning to the squad and they travel to Park Road to take on Cheadle Town this weekend.  Where Ashton Town have been improving, Cheadle have stayed fairly steady in form but have not been helped by playing some of the more fancied teams in consecutive league games.  Three points will be hard fought for in this game, a win for the home side could push them firmly into the buxom of upper mid-table whilst a win for the visitors could have a few clubs above them starting to look nervously over their shoulder.

Only two points separate Holker Old Boys and Chadderton and they go head to head at Rakesmoor.  Both of these clubs lost last time out and will be looking for a result this weekend to get some momentum going.  Another couple of clubs looking upwards are Silsden and St Helens Town who meet at Keighley Road, Silsden’s League form of late has been inconsistent whilst St Helens has been improving and like with Holker and Chaddy, only two points separating these two sides in the table and in this case a win for the visitors could see a change of positions by the end of play.

Daisy Hill play the first of two home games in three days as they face FC Oswestry Town at New Sirs.  Daisy Hill are riding high in the form table and are only a point and a place behind their opponents.  Both clubs are a fair way off the play off places, but a good run of games could see them catch up.

A re-occurring theme this weekend is the large number of clubs almost side by side in their respective league positions and that continues with the game taking place at Litherland Sports Park as fifth placed Litherland Remyca take on sixth place Sandbach United.  After a difficult October, Remyca have had a couple of wins on the spin already in November and have returned to form at the right time.

Sandbach haven’t been slouches either, they go into this game with four wins in their last six and have scored fourteen goals in their last five games.  This looks a cracking game and with both in the play-off zone a win for either could see them climb to the periphery of the Automatic promotion places.

Bacup Borough in fifteenth host league leaders Whitchurch Alport at the Brian Boys West View Stadium with Brent Peters side looking to put right a poor run of form that has seen them without a win in any competition since the beginning of October.  They lost out away at Remyca last weekend on the rear of a 4-2 scoreline but the team are a solid unit and certainly put the effort it and even at this point of the season it’s a brave person who writes off a late Bacup run to the play-offs.  Standing in their way in the first instance are in-form Whitchurch Alport.

The Salopians have been bang on form of late and this is reflected in their return to the top of the league table and worthy position of top of the form table too although in midweek they were turned over 1-4 at home by Malpas in the Ethelston Cup Quarter final although judging by the social media exchanges between the two friendly rivals both sides were putting out their under 12’s?  A tough match ahead for both clubs this weekend.

Alsager Town are another club very much in contention for the title this season but have slightly slipped off the pace recently and their cause wont have been helped by a couple of consecutive heavy defeats in cup games recently.  They welcome Carlisle City to Woodland Court but face a stiff test from the visitors who are currently second in the form table and have been steadily climbing the table of late.

Over at Stockport Sports Village, Stockport Town welcome another of the clubs expected to challenge for honours this season in the form of Widnes.  Callum Sykes’ men are without a win in their last five in all competitions and face two of the strongest clubs in the division on consecutive Saturday’s with a trip to current League Leaders Whitchurch Alport next weekend on the horizon, so three points from this game would be most welcome.

The visitors are also hungry for the points and are third in the form table, Player of the month Chris Lomax in their squad and look solid under Joey Dunn who has seemingly ironed out the clubs early season inconsistencies.

Last, but not least and continuing the run of games where clubs next to each other in the table face-off, we look at 19th placed Atherton LR who host 20th placed AFC Blackpool at Crilly Park with both clubs looking to put some daylight between themselves and the divisions relegation trap door. These sides are similar in form, results and league position so a win for either of these would be welcome, indeed if LR take the points they could find themselves in the lower reaches of mid-table whilst a win for the seasiders could put them up to seven points clear of the relegation places subject to results elsewhere.

With so many clubs in close proximity of each other playing each other this weekend the league table could look very different by Saturday evening.
