With his side currently lying third in the Hallmark Security League Premier Division and a 2nd Round FA Vase tie to look forward to, it’s easy to see why Bootle manager Joe Doran is a satisfied man.

“We’ve had a few blips but I’m really satisfied with the start we’ve made” said Doran. “We’ve made good progress in the league and have also advanced in two cup competitions which is something I wanted to do at the start of the season, so yeah overall I’m satisfied.”

The Bucks have been in a rich vein of late, scoring thirteen times in their last two league games making it seventy-seven goals for the season and Doran believes the impact of his new recruits has been a massive factor behind his sides impressive form.

“Definitely (when asked on whether his new recruits had made impact). I felt we added some real quality in the summer especially up top with the signings of Ryan Cox and Ste Jones who have both given us a massive lift.

“But we’ve also added lads to the squad since the season started like Carl Peers, who has been somewhat of a revaluation. He’s already scored eleven goals this season which is a great return for a midfielder - but the lads from last season have picked up too and really come on.”

Doran has long stated since taking over as first team manager, that the key to success in the division is consistency and he is of the belief that this will once again play a huge part in this season's campaign.

“100% it will be a factor” insisted the Bucks boss. “You can almost split our league campaign up into three different mini leagues. The first 14 games will be played on good pitches in nice weather. While the middle 14 are likely to be played on pitches that are wet and muddy.

“You could also be in a position where you don’t play for 3 to 4 weeks because of bad weather which, as a manager, can be really frustrating. The last third of the season can become quite hectic if you are playing catch up on games and also sees the pitches turning again.

“But right now we’re are just going to keep going and enjoying our football.”

Next up for Bootle is their 2nd Round Buildabase FA Vase tie against Padiham and Doran believes it will be another tough test for his side.

“It’s a big game for us just like it will be for them. They are the form team at the moment and we know it will be a tough game, plus in James Dean they have a forward who is scoring a lot of goals and is a really good player in this division.

“But if we apply ourselves in the right manner and play like we can do, then I can’t see no reason why we can’t progress to the next round".
