The weekend saw 26 of our sides involved in FA Vase ties, with a further 16 in league action.

Seven ties in the Buildbase FA Vase 2nd Qualifying Round paired our clubs together, and the spectators who turned up to watch Congleton Town's 7-3 win over Bacup Borough certainly had value for money, with 10 goals in an action packed 120 minutes after the sides were tied at 3-3 after the regulation 90 minutes. Declan Fletcher grabbed a hat trick in extra time for the Bears.

It also took extra time to separate AFC Liverpool and Abbey Hey, the Reds winning 3-2 after the sides had been tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes. Abbey had been two up after 24 minutes, but Connor Belger’s extra time winner secured a place in the next round for the home side.

Two Division One clubs emerged victorious from ties at home to Premier Division opponents. An 83rd minute winner from Adam Wilkinson was decisive in Ashton Town’s 3-2 win against Barnton, and two goals in the last ten minutes from Adam Owens and Louis Welch clinched a 3-2 win for Atherton LR over Cammell Laird 1907.

The three other all-Hallmark Security League ties produced away wins.

Second half goals from David Forbes and Thomas Rowlands sealed a 2-0 win for Runcorn Town at AFC Blackpool, Jake Pollard scored twice in Stockport Town’s 3-0 win at Alsager Town as did Nicholas Alexander in Chadderton’s 4-1 win at Widnes.

There were some good away wins to report against teams from other leagues, the most decisive of those being Bootle’s 4-0 win at Rossington Main, a game which was pretty much all over by half time with the Bucks having established a three goal lead.

It was a similar story for Irlam at Westella & Willerby, with a first half hat trick from Matty Boland seeing Steve Nixon’s side to a 3-0 win. Holker Old Boys came from behind to win 4-2 at Birtley Town, Charnock Richard enjoyed a 3-1 win at Harrogate Railway Athletic, and two goals from James Dean saw Padiham through to a 2-1 win at West Auckland Town after extra time.

Barnoldswick Town were the highest scorers of the day, winning 7-1 at home to Stokesley Sports Club with six different players sharing the goals. Two goals from Colin Quirk helped Litherland REMYCA to a 3-1 home win over Vauxhall Motors, and Hanley Town won 2-1 at home to Boldmere St Michaels, thanks to first half goals from Angelo Errico and Sean Mountford.

However, four of our sides departed the competition at the hands of opponents from other leagues, although in three of the games it took extra time to produce a result.

New Mills came from three goals down to draw level with Radford at Church Lane, eventually losing 4-3, and Silsden also lost by the same score at home to Hall Road Rangers after being two goals down.

West Didsbury & Chorlton lost 3-2 at Penistone Church, also after extra time, and Ashton Athletic lost 2-1 at home to AFC Emley.

In the Premier Division, 1874 Northwich maintained their place at the top of the table with a 3-1 win at Nelson.

An early goal from Stuart Wellstead got the Greens off and running, and two goals from Tom Bailey wrapped up a good win.

Meanwhile, Runcorn Linnets continued their recent good form with a 2-0 win at home to Atherton Collieries, despite finishing the game with nine men.

Mark Houghton scored both goals for Linnets, in the space of 13 minutes before half time.

Maine Road recorded their biggest win of the season with a 6-1 defeat of Squires Gate at Brantingham Road, Callum Broaday scoring two first half penalties.

Winsford United shared a 1-1 draw with AFC Darwen at the St Luke's Barton Stadium. Two Ryan's scored the goals, Ryan Mellor opening the scoring for Winsford while Ryan McKenna rescued a point for Darwen with an 87th minute equaliser.

Four games took place in the First Division, and Whitchurch Alport and Sandbach United occupy the last two promotion play off places after a 1-1 draw at Yockings Park.

A goal in the second minute from Sandbach's Daniel Bartle was cancelled out by a Mike Blundell equaliser seven minutes into the second half.

Prestwich Heys continued their recent good run with a 4-0 home win over Carlisle City, in which Erike Sousa scored twice for Heys, and Same Sheen and Daniel Greene were on target for St Helens Town in the 2-1 win over FC Oswestry Town at Valerie Park.

The highest scoring game in the division was at Cheadle Town, where the home side lost 5-3 to bottom of the table Eccleshall. Tom Wakefield grabbed a double in the visitors’ first league win of the season.
