Last Saturday, 1874 Northwich welcomed a special guest to their NWCFL Premier Division game against AFC Blackpool.

Eight year old Alfie Lund attended the game with his father Mark, who along with his family is raising funds and awareness of a rare life limiting condition that Alfie suffers from, called Mecp2 Duplication Syndrome.

Alfie’s father Mark displayed a section of their amazing football memorabilia collection – shirts, scarves, flags -  which at the end of the season will be displayed at Skelmersdale United’s ground where it will be measured on the pitch and hopefully a new world record will be set and submitted to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Once the record has been confirmed, the chain will be auctioned/sold off to raise further funds.

The visit to the Barton Stadium, where 1874 Northwich FC, several supporters and players donated shirts and scarves to Alfie to form part of the record attempt, was the 96th and final game on their two season quest to set the new record. A collection was also taken at the ground on the day.

After the game, Mark posted several photographs from the day on the fund’s Facebook page, along with the following message.

“Many thanks to all at 1874 Northwich today for their support flags were out loads of donations from all at the club total respect and you have the best pies in non league as well we all had a great day.”

Mark also tweeted “Many thanks to all @1874Northwich fantastic day a really top club great support from all respect @alfielundfund.”

An e mail was received from Mark a couple of days later which read “I can honestly say one of the best clubs we have visited - everyone at the club was fantastic and we raised £163 for mecp2 UK which was amazing, so many thanks to all and we will be back next season mate ,cheers and many thanks Mark”.

Once again, everyone involved with 1874 Northwich FC, players, officials and supporters, stepped up to the mark to help those less fortunate.
