1874 Northwich picked up their first ever trophy after a fine 3-0 win over Witton Albion in the final of the Mid-Cheshire Cup at Wincham Park.

It was a thoroughly convincing performance from the Greens, who controlled the game throughout and restricted their Evo-Stik League to a handful of goalscoring opportunities.

They got off to a dream start, going two goals up inside the opening nine minutes, and a late penalty wrapped up a memorable evening.

The opener arrived in the third minute, with Matthew Beadle's powerful header from a Tyler Edwards cross getting 1874 off and running, and they doubled their advantage on 9 minutes, when Craig Farnworth got a touch on Ryan Jackson's cross to put them two ahead.

Later in the first half 1874 goalkeeper Greg Hall was called up on to tip clear a volley from Witton's Danny Andrews, in a rare moment of hope for the home side, but before half time 1874's lead could have been increased further when a Matthew Beadle header was cleared off the line.

The pattern of play continued in the second half, and just after the hour Stuart Wellstead had an effort saved and Tyler Edwards fired wide as 1874 continued to apply the pressure.

With five minutes remaining, Matthew Beadle added a third goal with a confidently taken penalty low into the keeper's bottom right hand corner, wrapping up an excellent display and a great night for the Greens.
